1989 GTUs is the real one, help

I just purchased a red RX-7, 1989 and is a GTUs. I checked the manufacturer tires sticker and the tire size is 205/55/16 and the wheels are the correct ones for GTUs, no sunroof, no rear window wiper, no power windows and cloth interior. The car is very restaurable but is missing the rear spoiler and need some work to make it perfect. I am deciding if I sale it or if I keep it, it has a new engine and is a blast to drive it: the suspension, steering and brakes are awsome, lots of power and is very fast.
Please help me with the carfax check
VIN #:JM1FC3312K0704954
Any information or help, input is very appreciated.
Thanks

For a little more info on the GTUs check out this post, https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...highlight=GTUs
Dude you should get it and fix it up. These cars are SWEET. If it does not have a spoiler don't trip one of the previous owners probably took it off. Get it, drive it, race it, love it!!! Welcome to team GTUs

hmmm, didn't you say you just got one? the characteristics you described are what makes up a real one...

......why would you still need to know how to recognize one? guess i'm confused, lol

congrats on the purchase though...you're lucky to have that rare of a car...

lol smack kevin to wake him up!
GTUs had dealer optional sunroof, but that was very rare, and they had dealer installed A/c which was probably chose by the original buyer on his request.
known as optionless, to save weight, had a 4.3:1 Final Gear (all other manuals had 4.1:1, auto had 3.9:1) to give faster acceleration, N/A gearbox with normal R and 1-4 gear swith a different 5th gear ratio to become a more useful overdrive.
Some people say it had a Turbo II gearbox but it doesnt. It's still an N/A gearbox. It only came in manual, had manual windows, manual locks.
There were only 1,000 made in 1989. And 100 that werent officially claimed by mazda in 1990, but mazda really made them.
There were red w/ black interior, then white w/ blue interior, and then black w/ black interior. Sunroofless FC's are rare and almost all GTUs's had no sunroof.

Hmmm, what else. I think they had turbo II seats, Turbo II suspension, Turbo II brakes, and they were nicnaked "The Turbo II without a Turbo".

Thanks guys. Yes, by what you guys are telling me and for what the car looks like it has to be a GTUs: no pw windows, no sunroof or rear wiper, the special wheels.
I'll post some pics later. Thanks
If some one can help with the carfax check I will appreciated.

A couple things, Node...

Radio/cassette and AC were the only official options.

The wheels were not made by BBS, but made by Enki for Mazda under license from BBS (same way as the light alloy spares found on the S4 cars).

And your comment on Sunroofless... that you said "Sunroofless FC's are rare"

About 1/4 of the Series 4 production of almost 100,000 cars didn't have sunroofs.. I would hardly call 25,000+ cars as rare. Heck that was more sunroofless cars than the whole series 5 run all together. Now I do agree for a series 5 cars, that cars without sunroofs were rare, but on a whole; the sunroof less FC is not that rare.

Fist of all what makes them so special is for IMSA, SCCA (and others) racing regulations a manufacture has to produce so many production models to be able to race them in certain series. So that is why the GTUs was born. For the info on how to spot one you can click on the link that I gave up at the top. Node is mostly right on the options the GTUs had. But he is wrong on the sunroof. Any GTUs with a sunroof was done so buy the owner with a after market sunroof manufacture. Hehe for the last time there were 0 GTUs that came from the factory with a sunroof. I have spoken to a lot of different Mazda reps (both at Sevenstock 4 and 5), and also with the Mazdaspeed reps. Peace

Same rims as on the TII.

If you need decals, www.victoriabritish.com has them. I think www.mazdatrix.com sells them too.

Yes, I love the car, I think the car is awesome but I like to go back to my original search, 1991 vert with 5 speeds, my white vert was auto and I just sold it. When I bouthg this one was because the dream to keep it for fun drives but financially I can't have more than one car for me and my wife said is daily driver or has to go. I hope a RX7 enthusiats get it and restore it.
