1988 rx7 gtu, new head unit... no sound
Hey, recently it seems that the old stock audio player died so we're putting in a new one that's a cd player. We're wondering what might possibly be the reason why no sound is transferred to the speakers. Thanks for any help.

I'm sorry, I don't really know what that means..... there is an amp thing ontop of the stock tapedeck. it's like screwed into the same frame as the radio.

depending on the head-unit. it might have a short circuit-detect function that turns the amp off it there is a short on one of the speaker channels.
when i installed my alpine with all new speakerwires etc. it would turn on, but not make any sound, until i found that i had a short. right where the wire goes into the speakers is a good place to look, especialy since things are so cramped in the doors and dash. if all else fails just keep rapping the wires with electrical tape until there is no chance of a short.

No door speakers stock on a 88 GTU. Only dash and rear speakers.
Normally there is a amp on the front speakers, that needs to be bypassed or wired to turn on. The small box on the radio was probably the amp for the rear speakers.
who wired it up???
Did they follow this:
did you replace the speakers as well?

Did they follow this:
here's the radio wires again...
LTBlue/Red= 12v+
LtBlue/White= +Accessory
LtBlue/Yellow= - power ant trigger (not positive like all aftermarket radios- you must use a relay to invert the signal)
Red/Black= + Lumination
White=Factory Amp Turn on
Ground to the body, use the 10mm bolt behind the center console front drivers access panel. Do not use the Red/Black as ground it will damage the interior light circuit and dimmer in the car
Front Speakers (maximum of a 15 watt peak from the radio):
LtGreen/Red= Left
LtGreen/Black= Left
LtGreen= Right
LtGreen/Yellow=Right
Rear Speakers (if applicable, if you have the amplified rear speakers again the Maximum of 15 watts peak is all the stock speaker amp input can handle):
Brown= Left rear
Brown/White= Left Rear
LtBlue= Right Rear
LtBlue/Orange=Right Rear

aight, thanks for the help... we used the radio wires you gave and we used the radio antenna power (because the antenna is broke anyways) to power the amp and we get sound. Thanks for your help.

Remember the stock amps are designed for only 7 watts of input. More than 15 watts RMS and you will start burning out the stock amps or the outputs from the aftermarket radio.
