would the 1988 GXL 2+2 be longer and noser a little tacky... than a regular 1988 GTU or other type of RX-7? and does anybody have a picture of the backseats in a 2+2?

Do you mean a longer wheelbase? If so, then no they aren't longer.

In the lower right-hand corner of the Forum is a little box for the mighty Search function. Type in "back seat" and look at the 2000 posts about this subject, many of which have pictures.

And no Mazda did not stretch the wheelbase (like Nissan did for the 300ZX) to give the backseats any legroom. Only infants, pets, and small packages can ride in an RX-7 with the back seat.

The back seats were installed after the cars were built so the chasis are all exactly the same except for convertibles. Only certain years and trim levels came with back seats.

I've been guilty of this. You search for a particular problem, find a thread, read the first post and answer a question just to quickly help out. Then you realize the question was from 14 years ago. A bit of carelessness, it happens.

Since this thread been resurrected I'll add with the size of car seats these days I don't even think an infant would fit. Maybe a toddler in a booster.
