1987 N/A overheating.
Hey guys, i'm having issues with my fc, i have a 3 row koyo that i know is good, samco hoses, good rad caps, new waterpump, i took out the thermostat but havent driven it and i have the taurus e fan set up on the low setting. now i burped the system with my cap off and the heater kicking full blast for 5 min. this is inside my garage with my car idling. there is no smoke at all coming from my exhaust and my car doesnt have any leaks, but when i let it idle for 10 min, it heats up halfway and then starts to climb toward the H. now the last time i drove it down the block and on the way back it was overheating. when i popped the hood there's was white smoke and/or steam coming from my bottom left side of my engine. now this only happens when its overheating because nothing comes out from there when it's only warm. any ideas/suggestions? pretty newb with rotaries so idk what it could be coming out from. btw my engine still runs and sounds good, only thing i noticed is that before when it was cold it would idle at 1500 and now its more at like 1800-2000 until its warm and then its back at 800 when warm.

My 89 has a similar issue, i thought i fixed it... but nope.
Pressure test it, first and foremost (now i know the problem is still there I'm going to autozone to borrow a tester).
The white smoke on the left (passenger side I hope) is coolant burning off your exhaust manifold. Meaning the radiator cap is letting off the pressure (this could be a bad rad cap).
Make sure the thermostat is good, just to be on the safe side I would buy a new one. Also if you removed the shrouding from under the car... PUT IT BACK, it diverts air over the radiator!
Driving the car with out the therm isn't going to help you. It will just bypass the radiator and not cool at all.
New radiator hoses also if you didn't already.
After-market temp sensor is also suggested.

I agree with pressure testing it. Also make sure your fan is blowing the right way. Should be sucking it through the radiator. not blowing into it. assuming you have the fan mounted on top of the radiator.
just DONT let her overheat. the white some only when very hot could be the overflow bottle overflowing. let it cool off and top off the coolant
Based on what you said i would put my money on the fan blowing backwards or the thermostat. good luck

nope, fan is mounted on top of the rad. my friend is running it the same way on his 240. i'll try testing the duralast one i got from autozone, i had it in there for 2 days, it was still overheating.

make sure you properly cleaned the system out with distilled water. keep bleeding it until the water is CLEAR.
you might want to change your coolant temp sensor with a new one too
i had the same exact problem! check the metal on the throttle body, where the coolant goes through, and make sure its not rusted or clogged up. if it is clogged then the system builds pressure causing it to burst out of somewhere. i bypassed mine from the engine coolant hose straight to the bac valve with a plastic fitting from home depot cause copper gets to hot.
how do you people in vegas deal with the heat when driving a rotary? coolant additive or something? O_O
