Pulling motor, but found broken wire

Trying to get pictures, but a lot of stuff is currently in the way.

Hopefully, my words can make sense.

There is a wire that goes under the car, towards the transmission that, when it comes up into the engine bay, gets wrapped into a larger bunch of wires. This cluster of wires also contains the plug for the alternator. But one of them is broken. It has a white clip, and the wire is black.

Trying to get pictures, will post asap, but any possible answers would be awesome.

Might be the ground wire for the Neutral Switch.

What does that do? Is it vital, or even very important?
