1986 rx-7 GT
im trying to find out info on rarity on my car.. its an 86 GT and yet.. i havent seen many other GT's around. i was told by another buddy that 86 was (to his knowledge) the only year that the GT model was ever made? if people could clarify and help me out on that.. i would muchly appreciate it. thank you!
Not sure what you mean by "GT" ... as far as I was aware there was a GXL, GTU, etc...
Now I have an 86 N/A "Sport" model... tis bas model plus heavier duty suspension 4piston brakes and 5lug hubs. No power windows, etc...
Does this sound like your car?
Check the FAQ there is a thread on models of RX7's offered in the states and Japan.

What's the most common badge to slap on a car to make it look faster? GT.
seller probably bought a GT sticker; anything 4-lug is a base model, at least in America. I can't picture anything called a GT being a base model

^hahaha interestingly enough, my car had GXL stickers on it, but was advertised as a base model with a 5-lug swap. At least, the seller said it was a GXL that'd been converted to 5-lug; I think all GXLs came 5-lug.
Moral of the story: people do some weird-*** things with badging on FCs.

The original poster IS NOT from the USA!
I just posted the right hand drive Japanese GT model to show that there was in fact a GT FC somewhere in the world. Canada could have gotten a trim level called GT as well.

lol all these kids are idiots. i love it.
gtu with the u cut off. auto zone gt stickers added...
the us is the only country that got a non turbo model fc as far as im aware. the rest of the world got gt gtx and gtr variants. gt is just the base model stripper turbo car. again i dont know the whole story and its hard to find specific info about the non us cars, im just posting to say that his car is probably an authentic "gt" model and not just a sticker hack job or something

Yup, on base models.
QFT, I believe.
It's not a GTU with the U cut off; GTU models were 5-lug. Could be someone added the GTU sticker after the fact, and cut the U off, I suppose, but that wouldn't make the car a GTU. As for autozone stickers, that's a distinct possibility.
As for the latter part, have you read the FAQ? https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-faq-fc-494667/ According to the FAQ, the Canadian models were the same as the US models, but with different names; the GTU was called the GS, and the GXL was called the GS. I don't believe they had a GT.
and now, I'm gonna say the OP needs to post pics of his car, and the badging. I'm going to laugh when it turns out to be a musting GT badge on the side of his car.

lol internet sucks. i was ragging on the idea of others thinking its a modified sticker or added sticker cause its very possible its an actual gt and not some retarded crap like a cut gtu sticker. wasnt claiming the notion of cut gtu or added autozone gt sticker was a good idea. was actually saying that sounds really retarded
Anyways, it is NOT very possible it's an actual GT; a GT is a turbo model, and turbo models were exclusively 5-lug cars, no matter which country they were sold in.
I do believe that we need someone from somewhere other than the US to help with this.
Every other country has different model names, so you never know.
Could be a hack job, could be the real deal. Pointless to call it a lie unless you have proof.
