Actually, I don't think we do need anyone from anywhere else. I hear that FAQ at the top of the generation section is pretty impressive.

Unless this "hack job" you're referring to is taking a GT, and converting it to an n/a with 4-lug hubs, you have all the proof you need that it's not a legitimate GT.

First off, the FAQ you are talking about, is a collection of the US market brochures. So it is useless to use it in this situation. If that was the case, find someone in Japan with a turbo vert, and call them a liar when they say it's stock.

Have you seen an American GT FC? Just because you haven't, does not mean they aren't real.

So don't be a dick and act like you know everything, because you obviously don't.

The only "rare" FC's are the 10AE's and the GTUs's. You have....what seems to be a base model.....

Because a "GT" is a turbo model with 5 lug hubs. Does it have a Turbo? Don't get snippy with some of these guys, you are biting off more than you can chew.

And no FC is rare except for the ones I posted, Mazda sold hundreds of thousands of these cars.

Stickers can be put on anything. I could buy that sticker along with any other sticker and stick it on lets say a Civic or even a Geo Metro just because i want people to think its a GT so they are like "WOW I've never seen a Civic GT/Metro GT!!! Are they rare???" And you can say what ever you feel like.

So I don't get the point of this thread? You asked a question, I gave you an answer. Your S/4 Base model N/A FC is NOT rare.

I can't even tell who you are directing your comments towards, that's why there is a little "Quote" button you can use.

He just doesnt understand what people can do with stickers. Hence STICK-ers. Search the web you will find those exact STICK-ers for under $5. I will try to have a link up tomorrow.

And what are you going to say when the VIN numbers come back as saying it is a GT?

Just because you can get a sticker that says GT, does not mean that the car isn't a GT. So what you are saying is completely irrelevant. You can get a sticker that says anything you would like.

I say we wait and see what the VIN tells. Then we start arguing again

Im not arguing yet. Ill wait to see the VIN. I could really care less if it is a GT because what is the big deal if it is.

Anybody notice that both GT stickers don't have any hint of wear yet the RX-7 on the back has quite a bit?

Looks like I'm jumping in a bit late...but I just remembered seeing a GT model in the North American spec. parts fiche.

The GT decals on the car pictured look very real to me - and why would the poster make up **** and then ask if it's rare? Not much point.

Having said the above, the car seems like the GX models we have here in Canada, assuming everything original. GX models are nothing special (that's what mine is/was before I added some TII 87-88 mirrors and Conv. wheels). The badge may make it rare-er (sp), but not necessarily in terms of equipment combination or standard features, but I'm obviously not an expert.

edit: almost forgot to provide proof...my sig. has links to the parts fiche...which mention a GT model when you look at some parts. Also, the VIN will not show model trim (eg. GX, GXL, GT, base), at least not in that way.

O.K. went back and read all the posts. Some clarifications are in order for our (only) neighbours in the south...

Remember that the FAQ is not perfect - it's a great resource and I refer to it all the time, but it's not gospel and admits it isn't complete.

Here in Canada, during 86-88, we had base, GX and GXL model trims. These are the most frequently seen. We obviously also had the TII starting in 87, and I've seen an '88 GTU. These are the only models I've met so far in person and verified things were 'genuine'. I've seen a 'sport' model, but didn't see the owner and couldn't look through the car and papers to "check with a fine toothbrush - is that how the saying goes?".

My car came as a GX, everything kosher, nothing messed with. It has p/s and a/c, came with a factory radio/cassette (GXL's had an equalizer standard, at least here), manual windows and locks, no cruise, no rear wiper, no light around the door lock cylinder, no fancy door upholstery, no door entry lights on the inside near the back, no AAS, no ABS, came with power mirrors, it has a power sunroof, had 4-bolt hubs and pizza wheels, no 4-piston calipers, rear disks not vented, no limited-slip diff.

Our base models came standard with 4-bolts and steel wheels, no A/C, no p/s, no sunroof, manual mirrors as compared with the GX. What messes things up is some options could obviously be added to the base, but I'm not sure to what point.

It's not a question of being a dick. It's not a question of subjectivity or opinion. It's a question of fact.

First off, the US market brochures you refer to don't list a model called a GT. There were only finitely many models of FCs in the U.S. The FAQ also includes a list of terms, and within those terms are the names of all models of FCs sold in North America. Between this list of terms and the lack of a GT being mentioned in the marketing brochures, I know that America did not receive a naturally aspirated model called the GT. Quod Erat Demonstrandum

Nice! Next time you want to find a rare car, search for the elusive SN95 Mustang GTR:

I have honestly seen ONE of those in real life and they look nothing like the one in that vid. I am a Mustang Enthusiast as well as Rx7 Enthusiast. It was at the gas station on a trailer near where I live, the owner was filling up his truck. I am a Mustang Enthusiast as well as Rx7 Enthusiast so i know what the GT-R Stang looks like.I like living 15 miles from the Pocono Raceway. Gives me a chance too see all kinds of rare cars and stuff. Even cruised around with a few of them. Scariest thing though is going down a 2 lane and seeing 30 Porsche's weaving among each other in both lanes. Talk about Pucker Factor!!!

"check with a fine toothbrush - is that how the saying goes?".
LOL!! You Hoser!! LOL!!!

ah, but on to the OP.

For one, how can you be so sure it's the original paint? Paint shops can color match perfectly.

Even if it is, one can still get the stickers off/replaced without painting the whole car.

All signs say this is NOT a GT (since they had turbos and 5-lug), but rather a base model that has GT stickers.

This is the most likely answer. But you should just run the VIN and end all this pointless arguing. You are obviously getting some enjoyment from stirring the pot.

Stop it.
