1986 Mazda rx7 Turbo II ECU Problem
1986 Mazda rx7 Turbo II ECU Problem
I bought an almost new awesome 86 Turbo for 500.Interior is beautiful and paint is flawless. The only thing that is a problem is that it won't start. The previous owner was told by a dealership and a couple of friends that it was a blown ECU.I have a relative who is gonna give me one of these. My question is how I am going to input the ECU into it.I would like a push into where a guide would be located.Anyone have any advice to doing this?
Ecu
Make sure that the replacement ECU is the the correct one for your car. The ECU is located under the floor mat on the passanger side. If memory serves me correct there are two long pluges on the unit with squeeze type locks. For safety sake make sure the battery is disconnected. Simply swap them out.
If I were you, I'd copy the pages out of the FUEL seciton of the 87 FSM and go to the pages called CONTROL UNIT.
Then get your meter out and backprobe the pins on the plugs that are attached to the ECU. Key to ON.
Pay attention to the two pwr wires on the small plug along with the four light green wires for the injectors and also look at the middle plug and pay attention to the output of the pin called 2A. It SHALL be approx 5vdc give or take a half volt.
Used ECU are cheap. Around fifty bucks. A N332 or N333 will work just fine. If they try to sell you another number ECU.......forget it.

Mine is an '86, technically anyway. Built either 5th or 6th month of '86. I'm sure it was probably marketed as an '87, especially since that what it was sold to me as.
Here's more information on the original posters issue.
It IS an 87, not an 86. We pulled all the plugs and dumped some ATF/Marvel Oil in the combustion chamber just in case it had sat for a while. Turned it over with and without plugs. Works fine. Pulled fuse first to clear any flooding issues. Then put fuse in.
Previous owner related that he had the coils checked. They checked oK. We could pull the ones from my vert, but for right now I'll believe the coils are ok. Could check them based on the service manual as well.
She spins freely, but no spark. Different question posted earlier based on this issue also thought ECU. In other words, she just cranks, nothing else. Won't start. Nice car though
Too bad it won't start!
One corner of the ECU is banged up. I forgot that there's a way to check the voltage based on the previous posters information.
But...any other ideas? ECU the most likely culprit?
