I normally use three stacked o-rings on the top, which gives it a better seal.  I don't trust using just one o-ring, as it can get cocked and leak.

For bottom, I just throw away both the o-ring and the plastic cap and use a piece of 10mm I.D. hose as an insulator.

I am In the middle of this, as you've seen on the Canadian Forum. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=264069 The Fuel Injectors I used are 1680cc, not 1600cc as people say when they are refering to the Ford XL3E-C5A Fuel Injectors.

I've figured out the top of the FI's which Is simular to your setup Ted, but the bottom of them will be ran by your prescribed fashion. Thanks.

ERAUMAZDA, to answer your question, my setup Is going to cost $567usd. This Is for the whole system.

Your answer to the above instructions from Jim Linnihan on the injector trick....I told Jim to do that to his, as I did it to mine before him... It works great for me. I didn't want to dik with another fuel rail so I got out the dremel tool and went to town and buzzed off the plastic... Remember the plastic you buzz off has no baring on the seal of the fuel...Use a new O-ring off a stock style injector, as the 1600 O-ring is much larger... You don't need 3 O-rings, just replace them annually if needed... I'm not saying 3 O-rings is a bad idea, just not needed.

RETed, why do you go through the expense of removing the Pinto Cap?

You mean Pental caps... Who doesn't use pental caps?

EuraMAzda: I'll send you a photo.... The 1600's come with an oversized O-ring to fit over the plastic and seats up to a fuel rail that would be larger in size over stock...After you buzz off the plastic, you will have gotten rid on that plastic in which the oversized 1600 O-ring would fit tight on...Now you use a OEM O-ring off a 550 or whatever... make sense... You can't mess this up, but be sure you mask off the "pental" side and top side of the injector to keep the plastis dust out... Also, replace the air bleeder sockets..These are the spray pattern sockets that fit tight into the manifold itself...these get gunked up and are often overlooked...

The end result here, make the 1600 look like the 550's...thats all you need to know

I used the term Pinto b'c It sounded cool. I guess I've grown accustomed to calling the caps this. Thanks for the clarification.

How are you addressing the lower Installation of the 1680cc FI's?

It's actually "pintle".

The plastic cap at the tip is to protect the tip of the fuel injector, specifically the center actuator pin.  The secondaries are seated pretty far up in the orifice, so it doesn't see any direct ariflow from the intake manifold.  I would rather much take the plastic piece off than risk it falling off into the engine itself.

I don't agree with RETed taking the pintle cap off, but that doesn't mean its wrong...

I just got some of these injectors in the mail today and was wondering how I was going to go about modifying them. So Ted you think three rings is better than one? Do you have a picture of how youve modified them?

Yeah Ive got both of those in my favorites. Im just wondering why the extra o-rings. I wonder if over time the can deteriorate and come off and possibly clog up some part of the fuel system.

A question about the first method, it doesent seem like he could have gotten the Mazda bottom pieces on without removing the pintle cap. Can anyone who has modified the injector that way describe how the got the mazda lower ring on?
