Is 1500 too much for....

An 87 TII w/246k on it? Body has dents......one in the middle of the hatch above the license plate. The plate holder beside the right tailight is smashed in has some minor rust.........trim around waring cluster is gone.......and that doesnt work. Sunroof doesnt work.......power windows....well they are tired. Logicon switches but lights dont work.....car is dirty........took alot of cranks to start. Alot is probably easy fixes........ie lube tracks......clean contacts......resolder as suggested in FAQ, etc. The not starting up quick has me concerned. It did and idled real rough. The guy doesnt take car of it.......probably lowest, crapiest, cheapest gas he can find.......uses synthetic oil...........maybe with new plugs........wires.......tune up...........fuel filter........air filter......some good cleaning...........atf trick might help too..........after all it is a 246k mile car. If it lasted another 3k Id be happy. He wont go lower than 1500 tho. Has new tires and brakes. A true TII ........never modded.

Oh the exhaust will fall off if a rough bump is encountered I bet.

Im looking for one but basically have around 1k to play with. Just bought a house and already have bills. Im not looking for a perfect car mind you. A project is what Im looking for and the price seems about right.

It just seems like TII's are hard to find and Im moving to NM soon........dont know if there are any there.

What do ya think? Honest opinions too

It's only worth what you think it is worth. That's a LOT of miles for a turbo, considering they usually die around 150-175k, and all that work sure does add up, so think about that, and if you're willing to see it through and you think it'll be a fun project, then it may just be worth that. It's basically what you feel, we can sort of guide you in how hard stuff is, but that's about it. Probably has some mighty low compression, which either will need a rebuild or be replaced, which isn't easy by any means. Project? Definatly!

You can find rolling t2 chassis for under 1000 dollars in good condition if you look around. I think I'd hold off and be patient.

If the guy would come down to 1k I would probably do it and fix the things over time.......ive seen jspec motors for 900 or so.......still............alot o miles on that baby.........i was shocked it ran.....

Yeah, that's another thing to consider, is availability. Though, near jersey it shouldn't be so bad, not nearly as bad as the wisconsin/upper michigan drought of 7's

True..........but around here people seem to think its worth well more than it truly is. (not meaning to **** anyone off, truly) I know if you want it bad enough then its worth it.

With a new house payment, a wife and 2 kids, paying well over blue book for a 100k car because of mods and what it is (TII).............isnt very logical.......

The guy was asking 2400 for it...........obiviously he figured out no one would pay that much.............put it on an auction for 1800.....still no takers. In its current condition it books for like 1100 i estimated.

I did drive it around the lot................revved the crap out of it.........no smoke. No smoke on start...........when if finally did.

I'm actually waiting too see if he gives in and takes 1000 cash. I rattled off what I thougt was wrong and the numerous things it needed. He then came down to 1500..........then I told him an exhaust and tune up so it might pass emissions is at least 200 or so......I could get a used stock TII exhaust somewhere.......wouldnt open up the intake or exhaust till a new or rebuild was in........bet the poor tired motor could'nt take any additional boost

You could always buy it just to have the right to say you're the only one of us with a 270k mile running stock tII

yeah i thought about that braggin right

Hey.....its still a TII right.......with some TLC......it could be putting down some good #'s again.

He said "well taken care of" in his ad.....

My ***............it looked like poop. I want to buy it just to clean the damn thing.

I dont have a rx7 yet........but the car is a disgrace..........

It deserves a rightful owner to take care of it.

Good luck with whatever you decide, it may be worth it, and it may not, it's all going to depend on how much more life you can suck out of that engine (if that thing can even spool up positive boost anymore I'd be impressed)

maybe he is not the original owner and the engine was replaced before he owned it? 270k on an original T2 engine would be the most mileage i have ever even heard of on a T2 original engine. hypntyz7, one of the guys on the forum who has seen alot of FC's come and go, said the highest he has seen on an original T2 engine was 250k.

I'd like to see a compression test done on that motor.

I would offer him what you think its worth to YOU. Then keep your eyes open for others. He might just reconsider your offer...It does sound like you would be a good owner for this T2...It needs a good loving home! Save the T2!
Good luck/skill!

Thats a shitload of miles for a T2, i would pay 1k for it firm. I got my vert for free cuz the body was fuct up and the engine was dead, and yeah it was pretty much raped, breaks were dead along with terrible paint and yeah i could go on. but look at it now 5thousand dollars later. i guess it just depends on what u think. I personally am glad i put all the money to my car

Yeah I told him 1k is as high as I would go. Im hoping he changes his mind and no one in their right mind would pay any more. Plus I need 500 bucks worth of work done to my maxima.

Aaron
