Check the battery, check the grounds, check the connection from the battery to the starter, check the solenoid, check the clutch switch, check the ignition switch, check, check, check. Also, put the tranny in neutral and use a big wrench to turn the engine over. If it turns over, it ain't siezed.

My engine wouldn't turn over... and it was a bad starter. Is the starter just spinning and not engaging?

I removed the starter connected it to a jumper box and grounded it and it spun. I also held it spinning in a vise and grinded a wood stick to see if it was working correctly. and yes its good!!!! yea cranked the engine by hand and it cranks til a certian point then nothing! the starter is not powerful enough to turn past this point. i can crank it by hand but is extremely hard only did that once cuz i ddint want to hurt the baby rotors! but yes i need some help! i own an ae86 and im no rotor guy but theres an event i am drifting in and this 91 gxl is only $500! please help i dont want to send this back to him!

Alright, I understand that it spins... does the gear "pop up"? You test this by grounding the starter and touching the "S" terminal on the starter with the positive wire. (The "S" terminal is that little flat metal piece.) Do you have the harness attached to the "S" terminal? Explain what happens when trying to start it. Does the starter make a "spooling" or spinning noise? Do you have the correct starter for your engine? How old is the starter?

yea cranked the engine by hand and it cranks til a certian point then nothing! the starter is not powerful enough to turn past this point.
It may be seized then...

yeah it sounds like its seized by that statment..how long did it sit for...and yes atf is auto trans fluid..search for unsticking apex seals or something like that..it would be a similar process to try to get the motor unseized..u can also try marvel mystery oil in place of atf
