13b Tt In A 88 N/a?

So i have an 88 rx non turbo and cant get the motor to run, i thinking about making a project out of it over the summer. does anyone know if a 93 twin tubo 13b would be able to fit in my 88?...is this a common swap?...how much work is needed and parts? any info would be great because i found a full engine and trans, wiring harness and ecu...for $1200 can.

It can be done (But that's not saying much because just about anything can be done with enough time and money), it has been done, but that doesn't mean that it should be done. It's been covered MANY times before, FCS3Pro has a brief write up on it. Expect to spend WAY more than the $1,200 outlay though.

Ask youself a few questions.
1) can you weld, fabricate, solve alot of problems?
2) can you read a schematic and make sense of it
3) do you have enough of an intimate understanding of the twin turbo system to make it run?

If the answer to any of those questions is NO, don't even think about it.

I say buy everything and seperate and double your money and then pay someone to rebuild/port the N/A

Theres tons of threads on this swap. A search will net you plenty of results.

You should also read the FAQ Thread (sticky) on top of this forum.

big negative without fabrication.

Plus, for $1200, chances are the engine is blown.

well the engine is from royal japanese motor and is said to only have 30,000 miles from japan...supposed to have been well lubed over the years.....but on a seconf note the answer to the first two questions is yes but i dont have much of knowledge on twin turbos...............do the engine mounts line up the same or would that have to be altered....does the firewall have to pushed in?,,,and thanx for the answers so far.................

complete custom motor mounts. The turbo control interferes with aftermarket mounts. Don't believe the importers either. There are WAAAAYYYYYYY too many stories of the garunteed to fire, compression tested, fully lubbed, dry storage engine that look like.....

THe other thing to realize is that there are a number of 3rd gen guys who are competent with wrenchs but cannot figure out the sequential system and cannot troubleshoot it. Everything is closed loop and nothing cann accurately electronically be adjusted or altered without $$,$$$ in standalones & tuning. So, unless you have an intimate understanding about the turbos and can read, interpret and "hack" schematics... It'll be a world of hurt using the stock ECU. THere is a reason it's not a common swap by any stretch of the imagination. Like I said, anything can be done.

dont forget, you will need a custom drive shaft, or the TII diff and CVs... the NA diff flange wont work..

a compression test is the best way to find out if the engine is good, there is quiet a bit of info if you search on compression test.

dont forget you will need all the little stuff for thw swap, like clutch, pressure plate, liquids, and a bunch of time...

just for clarification i hope you are talking about a 87-88 TII engine and not the FD engine. casue the FD engine wont.

the S5 89+ will have to have wiring done and premix after that unless he swaps the front cover.
