13B-REW conversion PICS FINALLY!!!
Ok here it goes. It's been a while since I posted last. For those who have forgotten or don't know, here's a rundown of my project:
I retrofitted a 93 Rx-7 13B-REW motor to fit in my 88 GXL. The project over took 6 months of planning. I drove the car right up to the day I put the motor in and the swap took place over three days from taking the N/A engine out and getting the 93 engine in and running.
Anyways I finally have pics of the swap up. The page gives basic info on the car so any questions are welcome, but I'm not going to go into it right now cause I'm getting tired.

That's the link. Just follow the REW links to get to the pics. The first pages are from the fitment project and aren't to interesting.

rx7joe,
Excellent. What influenced you going with a 3rd gen 13B vs adding more HP to a 2nd gen?
If your anwer is "because I can" and "I wanted to learn how to" - I can 100% follow

Answer #1:
Because I can !!!
Answer #2:
Because no one else to my knowledge has one working or at least was willing to pipe up about it and help me out.
Answer #3:
Because I can't afford a 93, but I ccould spare a few grand to put the engine in. And cause I really love my car and color.
Answer #4
It's cool to be different.
Answer #5
I love the twin turbos powercurve.

very nice. i tell people this is an excellent mod for the price. i would switch the intercooler to a larger one. if you want to do it inexpensively go to a big npr one, like the one i have. the core is huge and with the twins you have no lag. do you have the twins working sequentially? that for me was the biggest pain because i used a cosmo motor, but well worth it.nice job.

Yes the twins work properly. can you give me any information on the NPR intercooler. THis is the first I've heard of it. Do you have any cooling problems or anything. You can mail me off the forum at rx-7joe@rcn.com

Good job! A couple of questions:
1. How did you deal with the motor mounts (I understand that
they are in different location between the two motors)?
2. How easy was it to wire in the stock ECU?
TIA,
Henrik

Nice work man, when did you actually do the project, last week, or by the way you say it, seems like a while ago. Hows it been running?
I am doing the 13B-REW conversion too. My motor was supposed to arrive today. Of course its still at the terminal till tuesday
But i see you wiring in power fc, i chose haltech, but id like to know how its workin out. I am redrilling the housings also. But did you swap the 2nd gen oil pan on, or kept the 3rd gen. Only thing i didnt look into, cant really tell till the motor gets here.

For the motor mounts I took the block to the machine shop. On the bottom where the 2nd gen pass side mount goes on, it is identicle escept the holes aren't there. I had the machine shop bore it out. I used a 2nd gen oil pan and just modified it slightly. There are some small indiscrepences between the two blocks.

On the passenger side there is a bolt hole boss higher up on the side housing for another bracket that's not necessary. I bored that out and made an extension from the stock mount and then reinforced the sides.

Wiring took two weeks to make the main harness, which involved stripping the FD harness apart and matching it to a spare TII main harness for length comparasons etc. The harness piggybacks the stock harness. I know a good deal about wiring, etc. and careful studying of the service manual beforehand, and some mapping out of my own.
The project started in January and was running on July 12 this year. I drove the car right up to the 10th, so nothing was prefitted or anything. The engine started immediately. It's run great from the day it started minus some misc coolant leaks, and a bad waterpump.
