13B ready for breakdown

Here is my 13B......ready to crack open. This is the first for me so I am taking it slow. Last week was spent working on that 2 1/8" flywheel nut. When it was all said and done I wound up taking to Rotory Racing and the loosened it for me in about two seconds, the 19mm in front was a different story, It took all fo a second.

That being done I went by the Mazda breakdown procedure and took off all the stuff........well I am not sure what you call all that stuff but I know that the wiring harness was one of the last things to come off. Who ever thought of that placement should be shot.

Here is the motor on the stand (a Chevy V8 stand made to work)

Look how much oil is in the exhaust port. When you crank the motor by hand you can see the rotors moving around the apex seals are sweeping oil around in there. This is the reason for the rebuild and the 007 smoke screen on start up.

Can you believe that this motor passed smog in October??? It was smoking then as well.

I have to drink some more courage then I'll be ready to open up the inside. My bro is always teasing me saying....."that car has gone its last mile on its own power!" Maybe I'll get it back together.

I am afraid to port it as I have (and I want to keep) an auto tranny. Everybody tells me that you lose too much low end if you port. I do want to polish alot of things while it is out. I would like a few bolt ons for a little more power. We'll see.

Is that the OMP thingy???

Yes it is the OMP 'thingy'. Im scared to know why you don't know what it is when its clearly removed from the engine

Your right. I was going by the manual and taking off each item as the breakdown suggested. The breakdown sequence called it a "metering oil pump" MOP. And I was just wanting to make sure.

The thing is, I have "heard" (see read) so many new terms from this forum. I have not had anybody (in person) point to any one thing and confirm that anything is anything. The line drawings in the manual are sketchy so I am trying to make sure.

I was using a Haynes book until I actually tried to get the motor out of the bay. There are 25 steps in the Haynes manual. Step #23 (here is the meat) reads like this "Recheck to be sure nothing is still connecting the engine to the transmission or vehicle. DISCONNECT ANYTHING STILL REMAINING.

Can you imagine??? first off There are exponentially more than 25 items to remove. I need something A little more substantial than step 23.

Back to your comment. You think you are scared. I am more scared than you are. So much so that I keep wanting to back out of the project and buy a 13B Rem from fc3s and pop all this **** back on and be done.

Yah FSM says MOP but for some crazy reason everyone on this forum calls it an OMP, go figure

I learned the term OMP from this forum... is it wrong??? Will I be scorned for using OMP outside this forum???

Another thing plague. Why would not knowing what something is stop any self respecting man from taking it apart??? Taking something apart is what man was born to do. You can worry about getting it to fit later, if at all. For now, I'm taking it apart. If there are some pieces left over in the box.....I'm sure it will be OK.....don't worry.....trust me......You didn't need those parts anyway. Damn factory always wastin' time puttin' **** on you don't need.

(you'll see me actually crack open the instruction book for the first time about 15 minutes after I try cranking it and it doesn't start, till then the book is on the shelf no need)

I don't know about the other forums as much for this term, but almost everyone on this forum that talks about the Metering Oil Pump calls it an OMP for Oil Metering Pump. Don't really know how it started since the FSM calls it an MOP Metering Oil Pump, but oh well. People know what you're talking about either way.
