13b n/a 2 TURBOII

i want to do a engine swap and i want a fully functionall turbo 2 engine. i just want to make th job as easy as possible. any one know were i can go to get a complete engine with trans for my swap.

for sale section, check the junk yards around you. Car-part.com is a good place to look at junkyards. Im looking to do the same, from what i have read its as easy and pulling the motor, droping the new one in and changing the wire harness. Switching the tranny isnt a must, but its better.

too much time and money go into the swap from n/a to T2! just tellin you from experience... nearly cost me 4k for enine, trans, labor, and a few other small things. I did have it done at a Mazda dealership who charged outrageous amounts, but i wanted to make sure everything was done right.

Never do anything like that at a dealer... they probably looked at you like you were crazy when you asked about it.

Also, the rule is if you want anything done RIGHT, don't let a dealer do it

You can buy a Japanese engine and tranny online for like $1000, but it will almost certainly need to be rebuilt (starts at $1000 if you do it yourself, assuming it's a reasonably low-mileage engine that isn't blown), and you'll also need to get the driveshaft, rear diff, and axles, or otherwise get a custom driveshaft that lets you use the NA diff (don't expect it to last long if you're gonna mod the engine).

IMHO there are only 2 reasons why anyone should ever swap an NA to TII. One would be if they have a Vert which was unavalable in the US as a Turbo model. And two, if they had an NA shell and a TII daily driver and they just wrecked the TII(or similar cercumstances). It just doesn't make sense $ wise to rip an engine out of an NA car and replace the engine and drivetrain with the turbo models. Your really just better off selling the NA car and buying a turbo car. I had my vert swapped to TII so I know the $ involved just like pearlrx7, however I didn't have a mazda dealership do it... Holy **** I didn't think a mazda dealership would EVER even consider doing this.

Selling an NA to buy a turbo is just the logical thing to do.

You're not taking into account that some people get attached to a certain car, and would rather spend the time and money converting it to a turbo.

Or it's simply too hard to find a turbo car where that person lives, especially if it took them forever just to find their FC in the first place.

So they'd rather convert it than spend a year or so looking for a reasonably priced turbo car, depending on where they live... around I'd probably have to drive 7-8 hours or have it shipped from halfway across the US to find an S5 turbo. It took me almost two years to buy an FC to begin with.

On the other hand, an engine and transmission can be shipped from anywhere for a reasonable amount of cash, and doesn't really need an inspection since you're buying it from a business, and make them contractrually agree that it will run and has compression...

Yeah I thought about the attachment that some people may have to their cars, was too lazy to include that.

Converting a car THE RIGHT WAY(Full drivetrain, not just engine and trans) can take a while to find all the parts too. S5 parts are becomming more and more hard to find but they are available every now and then if you keep an eye on the parts section. Then theres also the TMIC issue with the NA hood. Alot of people selling their TII hoods will not ship them so if you couldn't find a Turbo car near you what are the odds you will find a turbo hood near you? This right off the bat can force you to just go FMIC and cost more $.

The NA hood CAN close with a TII intercooler up top. I've personally seen it. However, it's not exactly a good idea.
I plan on looking for TII motors after this winter to convert my NA. I would just go the easy route and buy a TII and sell my current car except it is not only my first rotary, it's my first car. I am never selling my first car!

i bought my 7 for 300 buks and the engines arent that expensive seeing one for 2000 w/ tranny ..especially doing the swap my self shouldnt be bad...but even though its cheaper than getting myself an sr20...but da junkyards are a great way to go...
