12mpg - passed smog

My N/A 87 rx-7 eats 12-13mpg. Norman over at Sidepex says that these cars are lucky to get 17 (as factory specs say 19). The car passed smog so everything should be unclogged/tuned, right? Norman recently did a full tune-up, changed oil/coolant, fixed timing, fixed idle. He also checked the fuel pressure and it's stable. is 12mpg normal or could it be because i just switched from a 40mpg car that takes $25 to fill up.

12mpg doesn't sound too far off actual mileage for all-city driving, especially if it's bumper to bumper.

...highway miles however....

Thats interesting, my NA is getting about 20mpg, though thats 75% highway miles, but its all spirited driving...daily driven with a crusty o2 sensor.

i didnt do anything to mine when i had to get it smogged and it passed smog perfectly. I just changed the oil a little while before it, cleaned the sparkplugs. Also i have over 200k miles on mine already. But then again, the owner before me had the car serviced at tri-point engineering on a regular.

I am running 10psi and fuel is set to more rich, and i have a walbro and always hitting boost of 3-5 psi most of the time. and i think my O2 isn't working to well., and I get 16-18 mpg with half and half of freeway and city driving. Not bad, I thought it would be worse. Hopefully I pass smog though.
