12A into an 87 Rx?

Here's the deal. I have an 82 with a good 12a engine and tranny but the car is now totaled. I also have an 87 that shelled the rear rotor. I know if I do this swap I will loose power going from a 13B to a 12A, but the 82 was my daily driver, so right now i just need to get the 87 going somehow, and i don't really want to put a V8 or V6 in it and I can't afford to rebuild the 13B at this time. If anyone has done this swap please let me know what all is involved.

Thanks

I have never heard of anyone doing this, but you might wanna check in the 1st gen forum as well. I know people have put 13Bs in 1st gens so they might know what exchanges and all.

The mounts are totally different. Its possible to set a later engine up with early mounts, but not vice versa.

However, you COULD weld a set of custom mounts to the subframe to hold the engine in. However, the effort would not be worth it, especially since the fuel system would have to be totally re-done to support the carb. You can probably find a junkyard 13B to get you going pretty cheaply (hell, I've sold perfectly good 13Bs for $200 complete).

Thanks for the responses. I may just try and find another 1st gen body to transplant the engine in. Bodys are alot easier to find around here than good engines. Just one more question, if i make new mounts to put the 12a in the 87 will the 87 tranny bolt up or will i have to use the one out of the 82?

Thanks again
