12a 88 gxl?

I just picked up two 7's, one is a 88 gxl and it has a 12a with a carb on it. This is not the original engine is it? I have not picked the car up yet but can only hope it still has the lsd rear end..

All 2nd generation RX-7s came with 13B engines, either turbocharged or naturally aspirated depending on model.

And the 12A makes about 100HP...120HP with a header and a carb upgrade. It would have taken some effort to downgrade the car like that as the 12A mounts totally differently than the 2nd gen 13B. Someone put in a lot of work for some reason...I hope you would get it cheap.

I am getting a 78k 12a and trans with all accesories for free. I was thinking of putting it into my 90 vert but now after reading aaroncakes response to this Im thinking about not doing it. Is it really that hard to put a 12a in a 2nd gen?

I decided against the swap into my 90' vert shell and I'm going to put it into my 86' base model shell. I was searching earlier today for a 12a swapped FC and found 2 members on here. One is in Croatia and the other one last posted here back in 07' so I dont think I'm going to have much help with it but it cant be that hard to do. Custom engine mounts and some other fabbing of ****. I was planning to p-port or full bridgeport the 12a and maybe turbo it too depending on money and how things fall into place. If any one has some good information as to how to go about the swap Im interested to hear it!
