10th anny problem (eccentric shft)?????
Ok so I picked up this 10th anniversary up back in 09.No problems but the clutch was slipping. When taking the tranny out I noticed everything had been wiped down and cleaned.Only had a week before I replaced the clutch. The rear main seal was leaking.Did not think much about it and of course put another seal in with the clutch.
About 2 or 3 months later the rear seal started leaking again!!.I let it go for a while this past summer I took the tranny back out again to replace the seal and noticed the eccentric shaft had a lot of play in it(side to side.Looks like its knocking the seal.I put another seal in and this time it lasted all of a hour before it started leaking again.
I was told to try and tighten it up from the front bolt and I did that but it did not help.I talked to a rotary shop here in Maryland and they never heard of the eccentric shaft hitting the seal.Any ideas would be appreciated.Just cant afford a rebuild right now.

the #1 issue i find with the rear main seal is that they like to spin inside the rear stationary gear. if the seal feels loose going in, i wipe everything down and apply some sealant to the rear main seal before tapping it into the rear gear housing, let it cure for about a day before starting the engine.
if this is the case you can verify it by spinning it inside the carrier with your fingers while installed.
next issue is make sure there isn't a large lip worn into your flywheel/rear counterweight where the seal rides on the surface, also be sure you aren't cutting the seal when installing the flywheel, add some bearing grease to the inside lip of the seal, do NOT install it dry. also do not clean the flywheel seal surface with a wire wheel, it is very likely to leak through the tiny divots that the wire wheel leaves behind, a better alternative to cleaning the surface is using some 800 grit sandpaper with a circular motion.
