Well, since I think he already has the info he needs, I don't mind adding to the useless chatter.

That was basically the point I was making, that the so called "mint" cars that sell on ebay are going to be a huge dissapointment once the paint starts coming off.

so, now that we are totally off subject, with what the word "mint" means, what would "cherry" conditon refer to in reference to a car... i.e. "this car is in cherry condition"

lol aye when you say mint to me I think of a show car that has at most about 20km on the odometer from driving it into a trailer and out of it. Other then that there is no real such thing as mint when it comes to cars. This car looks to be in GOOD condition though - no visiable rust or damg other then a few marks on the hood from rocks when the car used to be on the road.

Hopefully all will go well with this car, i have gotten alot of info and a few phone numbers to call that are actually in edmonton. If I don't get this one i hope i will find another i might be able to afford in the decetnly near future.

No such thing as a 10th AE with a grey interior.

Either the interior has been replaced, or it is not a 10thAE.

Black leather was the only available interior on a 10thAE.

Mazda did have trouble with the light colored primer cars such as the white that the 10thAE came with.

Look at the paint code on your firewall.

10AE Paint Code = "UC"

The paint code is UC, which is monochromatic (sp?) white. I think I got this from a Mazda circular that I downloaded.

Question - so the peeling problems were with the primer not the color coat?

If this is true, then you'd have to go down to primer/metal, reprimer, and repaint.

My 10AE was repainted by original owner and still has some peeling going on.

The point is for SmogSUX to actually look in person, rather than sit at the computer all day and read internet forum rantings.

Yep, it was a bonding issue when the started using a light colored primers instead of the black enamal primer that they had been previously using.

And yes on my 10thAE it is being stripped down to the metal, as it had the issue and then some previous owners (read: morons) tried fixing it by just slapping more primer on.

I've seen UC marked as Crystal White in other places but everyone has always told me it was monochromatic white? Which one is it?

LOL, no, the Miata is for women, or for people going through their mid-life crisis.

As for pricing:

2004 Miata Base MSRP: $22,643 (Late 2004)
1979 RX-7 Base MSRP: $6,400 (Late 1978)

2004 Miata Base MSRP corrected to 1978 CPI: $7,700
1979 RX-7 Base MSRP corrected to 2004 CPI: $18,640

Difference = about 17%
