10th ae... should I save it?...
So today I found a 10th ae T2 at a local dealership. They say it runs good, but it looks a little rough. Peeling paint, oil leak, crappy seats...The guy is asking $2800, is it worth it? I know its rare, what should I do?

personally i think the 'rare' aspect of it is bogus. we have 4 10th anni's here in my 40k person town. some claimed they only made 1500 of them but never really gave supporting fact to his claims and started the whole rumor of them being rare yet i see them for sale all the time.
from your description the car is only worth about $1k tops.

I personally don't like the 10AE's... They are loaded with oprions and aren't that great to look at in stock form... But $2800 for a running T2 in decent shape is pretty good...

pfft, plan on it needing a rebuild, paint alone is going to cost $2-3k and new seats will be about $300.
the interior is the nice aspect of the 10th AE, i do like the way they are setup but they are heavier because of that fact and that does reduce the sport aspect of the car.

Yeah $2800 sounds like alot do you know where the oil is leaking from? and how bad is the paint .please define rough. i do love the 10th ae its a nice looking fc but you will probably need to rebuild or replace the motor and who knows what else. find out what is exactly wrong with the car before you commit to buying

Mazda doesn't know what the **** they are talking about, I know there must be at least 5k of them.
I'd pay $1500 for the car, if you know anyone experienced with 2nd gens in the area have them look over it and try and talk the guy down, look in the regional section.

I know of several in the Raleigh area... I'm doubting that there were really only 1500. Didn't Icemark say that Mazda did two different production runs or something for 88? one set came with certain options and one set didn't. Like Johny Zoom has one with like 78k miles but it has no cd player, and i'm sure some of them came with a cd player

Thanks for the feedback guys, I already have an 84 se for my daily driver and an 82 sitting in the yard next to my toyota truck, both of which need a lot of work or else they'll become parts cars. So I don't need any more projects but I had heard that rumor about only 1500 ever made and wasn't sure how rare they were becoming now. I think I'll let somebody else get it though. Thanks

I see more 10AE's for sale than I do S5 Turbo II's. I think that puts "rare" into perspective. In fact, there's a good chance that there are more 10AE owners on this forum than there are S5 TII owners.
Then again, how many of them are clones? The ones I see in stock form are few and far between compared to those that have been modded and no longer look like a true 10AE. So without doing research I can't honestly say. However, the same goes for S5 TII's. It very easy to do a few body mods and have any 2nd gen looking like an S5 TII so researching the cars VIN is necessary before buying.
