10th ae fresh rebuild ?s

I have just acquired a 10th ae with a fairly fresh rebuilt motor. It had flooded out on the previous owner and he sold it to me. Motor was rebuilt by a guy named Bren in Lilburn, GA. I got it started with a Lil oil in the rotor and after running about 45 seconds it sounded as if something was whining (bearing whine) and then I noticed the downpipe being red hot and a little bit of.smoke coming from under the turbo. Ideas? Suggestions? I haven't torn into it yet as the previous owner said it ran and he drove it for a couple weeks.

Sounds like it could be a clogged cat (assuming it's still in place). Very common. If you're trying to "restore" the 10ae, then you'll need to get a replacement. If your 10ae was already molested (mine was) and you want to mod it, a nice 3" DP, test pipe, and exhaust will do wonders

I would agree but the only mod it has is a full 3inch racing beat exhaust. So sadly, no cat issues. I pulled the intake manifold and checked for leaking fuel injectors last night. None when off, next I'm going to check their spray pattern although they looked to have been professionally cleaned at some point (completely clean and not painted black any longer). Beyond that, I may have to remove some emissions components as I have seen a few suggest that if the acv is stuck injecting air into the exhaust it would do this.

Also found out the motor was built by Juan Delgado from Mazda and installed by Been.
