100 octane..safe?

I was at the track last week and they har 100 octane race fuel. Is it safe for me to run this? I assume it would lower the risk of detonation. Correct? Anyone with experiance that could give me the pro's and con's?
Thanks alot.

You'll have to check, but most 100 octane fuel is leaded. You can run leaded fuel if you fulfill 2 conditions -

- no cats
- heated oxygen sensor

The lead is really bad for the cats, and a non-heated oxygen sensor will foul out very quickly. Heated oxygen sensors will eventually foul as well on lead, but no where near as quickly.

Remember, the higher the octane, the slower the gas burns. On a non-turbo car, you want low octane for a fast burn. On a turbo, you want the lowest octane that you don't detonate on. High octane fuel will typically let you run some more timing advance and more boost, but it isn't instant power or anything.

I believe some Sunoco stations sell a 100 octane which is unleaded - GT100. There's a list on their website somewhere that lists Sunoco stations that sell it.

I should note that there is also a GT104 that is unleaded, but is not street legal. GT100 IS street legal.

We have CAM2 (~120 octane) here. It sells for $4 a gallon.

On an N/A most definitely not. The higher flashpoint and more anti-knocking agents makes no difference on a car that's designed to run on 87!

The only way it would help you, is if you where to advance the timing for more power...and even then its overkill. You can get away with advance on 89 octane...

How do you guys personally run higher octane gas? Meaning, like fill up with some like a week before you go to the track, then get some more or what? I mean if you just get some before you go it will just mix with whatever you normally run, right? Just wondering because one of those sunoco's that have the unleaded 100 octane is like 35 minutes from me but only like 5 mins from the track and wondered what the best method I should use. Thanks.

I buy 100 octain ave gas buy the 55 gallon drum! The company i buy it from gives me a hand pump to fill the car with! It's only like $2.16 a gallon in a 55. i'm going to try 104 octain next.

Safe insurance for running higher boost.

I'v run C16 (116 octain leaded) in my turbo II before, it runs better on 100 octain! I think the spark plug gap is to big for C16? Your not going to feel a diffrence from the gas!! it's going to help you not detonate so you can turn the boost up for more power
