10,000 to spend on an 89 vert

I have recently come into some money. Specifically 10K and I would like some suggestions on building a mostly stock looking 89 vert with approximately 300 reliable rwhp.

I was thinking a 20B, but all ideas welcome.

Thanks,
David

20b is a nice idea but itll be most of your money. a 13bt might work out better with a good front mount, and exhaust, and a stand alone fuel system, but i cant argue with the fact that 20bs are badass =) good luck with the car man.

Both.

I have been working on cars since I was 5 with my father. He restores the older american cars. He currently has a 34 3 window ford coupe and a 23 T-bucket rodster with a 351 cleveland.

I have had a 1967 mustang FastBack with K code 289, 66 mustang, 67 GTA mustang, a 1984 Mustang GT convertible, a 1984 Mazda RX7 GS, a 1988 Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo and the above mentioned 89 vert.

I have some experience with rotary engines, but will have some of the work done by professionals.

drop in a 3 rotor engine and make it na. Get racing beat suspension kit, racing beat exhaust(obviously needing a custom header), and kyb agx struts. After that your vert will be awsome

Honestly, your best bet would be to get a 13b-re, standalone, frontmount, and a single turbo, along with the other standard stuff for the swap. There is a good page on it at fc3spro.org. After that, a good suspention.

Ok you guys are just being ******* stupid. 20B swap 10grand no matter what way you look at it doing the work yourself. Thats ALL if his money and maybe + some.

300whp jees just put a 13bt in with a hybrid you can do this and make a nice OEM codition car for under 10k

+1 to that. Seems like he found a 20b sitting in a garage somewhere and decided to get it in there anyway possible (and didnt clean it either).

Thanks Guys for the info. I have read up on that RXX-7 20B vert in the picture. All that guy says is it costs A LOT of money and he does not want to talk about it.

I would like to build a unique vert but definitely want to stay with a Rotary powered car.

Actually, if that's the vert that I'm thinkin about, that dude put a lot of money in the swap... It might not be the prettiest, but that ****** moves... And truly that's all that matters...

As for the missing bolts... Lets just hope nothing falls our. Lol

body work & paint - 4k
Wheels/tires...nice ones - 1000
13BT + Hybrid turbo -2k
TII Drivetrain - ~6-800??
Clutch - 200
Springs + struts - 800
Standalone ECU - 1000
Tune - 300

Total could and probably will be different (most likely lower)... but that's what I would do. Prices may be on the high side... but better to estimate too high than be short on cash, right?

And that's not including stuff like oil lines, new fuel lines, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, injectors, new TID, etc.

The only way you are going to get a 20B swap for $10K is if you do all the work yourself, and are really good at getting deals on parts. If untimate power is your goal, the it's the way to go.

But if you don't need 400HP and the torque curve to match, then a regular old 13BT will do the job just fine and be a lot cheaper and easier. Do it right with a standalone, new fuel system, etc. etc.

And you'll have a lot of that $10K left over for things like suspension, fixing all the little interior issues, etc.

It looks like the consensus is for a 13BT etc. I was thinking that would be the case.

I am interested to know what a 20B NA would cost though? If it is significantly cheaper that the turbo version? What are the pros and cons of this type of setup?

The guy that paints my father's cars said he would repaint mine at cost and the car has only a few minor door dings, no rust or bondo.

I was going to put a stock TII spoiler on it and a sport style wing on the decklid.
Wheels and tires, I like the look of my BBS wheels. but would like the 16s from the enfini cars.

Thanks again for the info.

The cost of a 20B NA would be about the same as the turbo. You're trading a front mount intercooler for having to fabricate a header...

Don't forget the turbo and turbo manifold and BOV trading out for 3 high compression rotors(if you're going with new ones that is).

Agreed. It may be a few grand cheaper(no turbo kit)to go NA. Especially if you use the stock intake manifolds. If you want to get all the power you can out of a 20b NA setup you would go with ITB's and high comp s5 NA rotors etc. the price just starts going back up again.

Anyone know the HP record for 20b NA setups? I think the most I've seen is 300-350 whp.

if i were you i'd do an NA 20b with the stock turbo rotors. you can still make 250whp NA (and like 230+wtq) i've added this swap up a few times for an FC and it ends up being about 8500 bucks total. this is with EMS that can control timing split for 3rotor (haltech e11) and the other necessary things.

Whether this thread has been done before is irrelevant. I did a search for 20NAs and other engine swaps and they did not meet my criteria. I wanted a stock looking vert with a specific type of HP rating and reliability. And BTW I am asking for help on where to even start. This is not a wish list. It is a valid gleaning of specific information.

IF YOU HAVE NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO ADD I SUGGEST YOU REFRAIN FROM RESPONDING. No one is making you read the post. Jerks have no place on this board.

I was going to send you a pm out of courtesy, but I understand why you have it blocked . Your response to my post speak volumes.

If you care to respond, I do not block my e-mail.

David
