0% Airflow Reading on SAFC, Won't Start.

S5 TII.

After installing the turbo, e-fan, battery relo, o-ring coolant leak fix and new injectors, I went to start the car. Wants to start right up. Revs to 1.5k then dies. I checked my SAFC at startup and I'm getting a 0% airflow reading--even as it revs up. Went through the usual routine: checked all plugs, checked for vacuum leaks and re-seated the plug at the AFM. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Go to SENSOR CHECK and tell us what the sensor reads when the key is just to ON. AFM should be the first voltage reading on the small list.

Also, getting an AFM Error Code when I checked.

I'd guess the YELLOW wire for the SAFC is open since you read 3.9 on the sensor check.

Try this if your not in a hurry. Take the air filter out, and push in on the vane in the afm while your looking at the sensor check page in the SAFC. Does the voltage change???

Anyway, take a look at the YELLOW wire and if thats good take a gander at the white wire. One of the two is disconnected.

Before doing any of that.....go to ETC and check to make sure you still have FLAP, O5 05. ARROW UP TO THE RIGHT, CYL 4. Sometimes our fingers slip and cause problems.

I've since forgotten what the voltage for the AFM at the ECU, IIRC it was 5v, so 3.9v should be OK?

Just to clear things up, you are suggesting that the yellow lead is loose between the SAFC and the ECU, I thought it was strange that I would see voltage at SAFC Sensor Check and absolutely no reading when Monitoring Airflow. I was thinking that something was amiss between the SAFC and the AFM instead. I'll run through the checks tomorrow morning and get back to you.

Thanks again,
B

EDIT: As it's a Series 5, the settings are 06/06, but everything else checked out when I looked earlier.

3.9 is perfectly NORMAL. No way you'll ever see five volts.

MY BAD. Like they say, Mistakes will be made. I've probably made that same mistake before on this site. I've a series four only. Have fun.

Well, went out his morning and started at the SAFC. Being that I installed the larger injectors I wanted to knock down the fuel at idle. Well, Hailers, as you noted, when adjusting everything I "slipped" and set the Flapper setting to Hotwire. BANG! Started right up and idled at 750. Just for sh*ts and giggles I did pull the ECU and checked the wiring--soldered and shrinkwrapped nicely.

Have a great weekend all and thank you!
