*searched* Coolant leak under the passenger side carpet, quick q's

Cliff notes:

Passenger side carpet is completely soaked in coolant enough to drip out from under the fender, its coming from the heater core. Leaks the reservoir out in a day. Started a month after I replaced the block -> firewall/heater hose. Could it be anything other than the core itself? I want to make sure before I cap the lines.

If I do eventually go the other direction, what have you guys done with bad heater cores? I don't want to pull the dash just to replace it with another old one that might **** up again.

Thanks

If you don't need the heat, just plug the lines or run them in a loop(better) leaving out the core.

If you replaced both hoses its the core, thats all that has coolant running through it inside the car.

i removed mine. along with everything under the dash. If you get cold wear a sweater or jacket. If your GF gets cold stare at her nipples but don't crash.

Wierd, after I went for a 10 minute drive I noticed it leaking from under the brass tube that comes out of the core on the firewall for the heater to block hose, right under the tube there was coolant seeping down the firewall..

It gets to mid 20s up here so I'll probably need it, although with what happened this winter (snow+rex+guardrail) I don't know if I'm ever driving this car again in the winer, all trac station wagon FTW.

btw, just for database purposes, don't use the stupid rubber 5/8' vacuum caps you buy from your local parts store to block off your heater lines. The hardline from the radiator might hold but the one by the block will tear. Take some hose and run them in a loop running the hose from right above the tranny. I went through 2 vacuum caps in 3 days, put the hose on and did some donuts and that bitch was fine.

I had the same problem, so i ran the loop, when you run it in a loop does it blower stop working too? cause now i have no air. So when i need to defrost the front windshield it'll take forever. Anyone has any suggestions on how to defog the front windshield without air?

Clean the windsheild with windex TWICE for good measure. Then rub a couple of layers of amonia( I don't think I spelled it right). That should help.

Khan- I have the same issue right now. I think I will go brand new (heater core) cause this seems to be a common problem.

Anyone have any luck with the cheap aftermarket heater core's. Should I buy factory?

^^ I didn't know they even sold brand new heater cores for our cars, where do you plan to get one and how much? Thanks for the advice on the windshield. Aznboi the blower should work, in fact I noticed my AC blows way harder now that I've disconnected the heater core, maybe its just me. On defrost it does blow air but its not heated obviously because you bypassed the core.

I've seen them on ebay for around $100 bucks.

Anyone have any experiance using aftermarket heater cores?

Right now my TII heater core is bypassed. Just run a hose bypassing the heater core. I ziptied mine to the ac line.I can take pics if need!!
