*Low Fuel Warning Light* - Please Help

Hi there, I'm thinking this might be a new one for you guys.

Today I filled up my car and after starting it the fuel light is on and won't come off. Any ideas why this might be happening?

are there any other of the idiot lights on??? What does your voltmeter read???

The fuel gauge light sender /thermosister wiring may also be grounded

Sorry, but in my RX-7, in fact in all three of them, the item that makes the fuel low light come on is a thermistor on the pump and it does NOT rise and fall with the float (the fuel level float). The thermistor is fixed in place and does not move. See the free online fsm, the electrical section.

It works much like the thermistor in the top of the radiator. When it becomes uncovered with fuel, it trips the low light. IF you have fuel in the tank up to the gunnels, then the thermisitor is kaput or the wiring is kaput/shorted to gnd.

Wow this sounds serious, and all I did was fill my tank. It was working perfectly before since my fuel was getting low and the light was coming on and off to warn me. How could it just short by filling the tank?

Any other possibilites maybe? Anywho i'll have to get it checked out since i don't know much on my own unless its an easy fix.

With the light on, pull the fuel pump plug apart. Light go out? Then buy another sender unit at Mazdatrix.com. or even better, the junque yard. Light stays on? Idiot light cluster problem/wiring problem.

Buy a new sender unit from Mazdatrix

You can just buy a low fuel unit? When I last tried, I had to buy the entire fuel level assembly to get a new low fuel unit.

That is one expensive part. Where can I find the fuel pump plug?

And thank you for the information.

It's about a 8 inches from the wire coming off the fuel pump. 4 pin connector.

When I bought my car that light liked to stay on constantly. It would go away sometimes in the winter. Then I changed the fuel pump, and something I must have done back there fixed it, because it went away by itself and now functions correctly.
