*Clutch fluid leaking, don't know where/Options*

Hey guys,

I started a thread almost a week ago about my clutch possibly leaking. Well, it's doing it again and I don't know where from.

Are there any "hot spots" to look where it may be leaking from? Also, if it happens to be the master or slave cylinder what brand should I get that you guys recommend? The one guy in the other thread told me I should rebuild it; if that's the case then what rebuild kit do you guys recommend?

Also, at the VERY WORST, what else could cause this and where is the fluid going??

Thanks for your help because I absolutely HAVE to get this fixed by this weekend!

I think he got it right the first time...did you look down there yet?

I am confident it is your clutch master cylinder... However u should replace both items the clutch master and slave this should cure your problem..

Yea it shouldn't be very hard to track down... the clutch system isn't very long.

Just replace the slave and master, then your leak will probably be fixed, and you can say you got new parts.

i know my slave cylinder was leaking pretty bad when i replaced it last, in the cold w/o letting the engine warm up, it would go to the floor. replaced it, put a hose clamp around where the boot meets up with the metal body of it, and i havent heard a problem with it from my parents yet.

deja vu(i remember typing this before). The matrix has a change made.

Thanks, guys, for your help.

I checked the master and slave in the bay and both are dry. I checked under the dash (where the pedal is, right?) and it is also dry.

However, when I checked under the car by the driver's side it appears that there is fluid leaking there because the underside smells like fluid and appears wet. I guess the best way to describe the location is just a few inches back from the back of the front tire and underneath the driver's floorboard. If you were to draw a line from the bottom of the steering wheel through the boards that's about where the "possible" leak is.

I just want to rule out the possibility of it leaking into the clutch assembly. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Thanks again guys, and spooledup if it ends up being the master/slave you will most def. be hearing from me.

Also, what would you guys say the difficulty is in changing these out? Time-wise, and do I need any special tools? I'm not very hydraulic-savvy so should I take it somewhere (parts already bought) so I don't mess it up even more?

It is not leaking into the clutch assembly brake fluid (aka clutch fluid) has no way of getting into there... fluid goes form the master through the hose to the slave and all are mounted externally from the trans..

I would just replace both the clutch master and slave and get a new clutch hose and that will rule everything out as far as the clutch hydrolic system goes.

The most common leak path is from the master cylinder to just inside the firewall.
Then is soaks into the carpet pad & hides until the pad gets saturated.
Then it finds a floor pan drain hole.

Here is a picture of a leaking clutch master.
