*** Gas Meter ***

My Gas meter doesnt work properly.. When i fill it up full tank its fine, but when it starts dropping..

It goes all da way down, and i cannot tell how much fuel i have.. I seem to be having alot of electrical issues..

Sometimes my lights on the top dash board would work fine..

it would tell me if theres a door open or what not.. but sometimes it doesnt... any one know how i can fix this electrical issue? and if so.. do you have a picture? Thanks alot

It does sound like you have some electrical gremlins. I'm not the best to help you out there, but on the fuel issue I'd bet it's the sending unit.

If the gauge drops off immediately and completely, then it might be a wiring issue. If it just drops way faster than the tank, but you can watch it go down it's probably the sending unit.

My Subaru does this. If I keep it full, it will read full and fairly accurate. If I let it sit for a long time with like 1/4 tank or just don't fill it the whole way when I gas up for a few weeks it read wrong. Basically by half a tank the gauge will read empty.

I just go by 300 mi/tank and use my trip odometer. That would probably be a fair number for your RX7 but it's hard to say. Mine got about 350/tank before the rebuild, but yours could be as bad as 200/tank depending on the condition of your emissions system.

You could also replace the sending unit, but it sounds like you might have some higher priorities.

Remember it's just as cheap to keep your tank full as it is to keep it empty.

check the screws on the back of the gauge cluster. You may have corrosion of a bad connection there

This just hit my brain....could the float thingy be leaking and sinking? Does it stay down once it goes down until you fill it up again? To check, you'll have to pull the fuel pump/sender assembly.

Maybe the fumes from the body filler are screwing me up.

I cant tell right now, but yeah, when i fill it up full tank it will read full tank, but once it drops to 80% fuel, it reads empty.

Eh, you have both of my problems.. only urs doesnt go up at all.. My light when low in fuel doesnt light up.. so therefore, it is electrical problem, but the needle doesnt work properly, so it might be the sensor.. I am not sure, but i will be bringing it in to get a full check up and get everything needed to be replaced on my fc.

Sounds like a bad fuel level sender. Common problem in some other cars I work on, not so much with the RX-7...

+1 for new sender. My fuel gauge dropped down way below Empty one day. A new fuel sender fixed that.
