$75 86 gxl

I just purchased a 1986 gxl with no engine or transmission for 75 bucks from my brother in law. He swaped out the engine because his other one had an engine fire.
So I just got my tax returns and I am going to drop a jspec into it. My only problem is that I dont know which company is reliable. I know of a couple different companies but I dont know which one is trust worthy. I was wondering who has bought a jspec from which company and what they think of it.
Pricing would also be helpful.

The only mechanical question that I have is can I use my NA driveshaft with the turbo II tranny??
Thanks

No you have to use the TII driveshaft or the Automatic one (i have an extra one) I think with the automatic one it is not the exact same size but will still work

So the automatic TII driveshaft is almost the same size as the NA manual?

Dude.. You need to do some research before you go and buy a j-spec.... a LOT of them are ruined by the time they get here and you will have to rebuild them anyway....

Just make sure that they warranty the motor.. that it runs...

I did do the research, but I was wondering if anyone in the forum has bought a jspec from a specific company, and if they are reliable.

is it true that in japan they dont change their oil? I've heard this from somone and i dont think it could be true becaues Rx7's naturaly burn oil so they would be dead way before the 30,000 miles is up. Is this why alot of the Jspecs are dead when they get to us??

Most Jspecs are dead because they've been sitting in a junkyard for God knows how long, and they're probably in the junkyard because they're blown in the first place. I really don't believe they don't change their oil there, it just doesn't make sense.

Well i know that its a law in japan that your motor (not just rotary) can't exceed 30,000 miles (which is why we get them) Then they pull them and put in a new motor. So Jpsecs shouldnt be coming from a junkyard. Just japan wont let anyone run them anymore because of emissions after 30,000 miles.

Yep and thats why I'm going to get one. I have 1300 saved up for a motor but some of the places I've seen sell them for 600-800. So I was wondering what company other members have gone through to get their jspec.

Well all RX-7's in Japan were turboed, so it'd be pretty hard not to.

Also isnt the Turbo II just the US model? If so, really there were no Turbo II's in Japan...

I have bought one from mazdaracing.com it was a ******* piece of **** that I sold to some one for $400 for a core and sold the turbo for $180just to get some of my money back. How do you know you wont get a 30,000 mile motor that has been sitting outside in the weather since 1989????? You dont! do you think they just store motors in a climate controled building?? bwahahaha

Re: $75 86 gxl

The NA driveshaft will not mate to the TII transmission. The AT driveshaft will mate, but it is too short because the AT is longer than the MT, hence the shorter driveshaft. Most of the driveshafts have worn U-joints by now, anyway, so it is best to just buy a new one. You can get an NA-TII driveshaft from Mazdatrix, or even better you can buy a new TII driveshaft (thicker) and use it with a used TII differential (also heavier) and TII halfshafts (also heavier).

Yes, if you also use an NA flywheel, starter, and slave cylinder. The problem is that the NA transmission is weaker, and will most likely break if the TII engine is producing anything more than the stock power level. However, that all depends on how you drive the car.

Everybody knows that the J-spec engines all have 30K miles on them, the oil is original because the Japanese never change oil, and the J-spec engines are made to use the Japanese fuel that is much higher octane than anything else in the world.
