$700TII Part3: power questions/tune?
1987 TII 20k mile motor swap, sat for 3 years.
The engine makes loud, really loud woosh sounds when I take the plugs out. so i take it the motor is good.
ok tested the tps... one light... so its good?
blead the brakes... they feel good!
throttle responce is getting a little bit better, but still kinda bogs for a sec or 2 when i press the gas, And really has crap for power, until it hits 6k.... then it sounds like another engine opening up.
From 2500-6k boost is builds to about 3psi or so.
From 6-7k boost is 5psi.
now from 6 to 7k it sounds kinda funny. keep in mind i do have a big exhaust leak at the precat to mid-pipe joint. it is kinda ta tah taAAAAHHH.
its hard to think how to spell how it sounds but it is seems weird... i think most of the sound is commin from the exhaust leak... but i gont think it should sputter like that. the boost dosent sputter but the car does.
Now whats up with the twin scroll thing? when does it do what it does... is that why i dont see boost in first till 6k?
my drive way is a semi steep hill. the car barley has power to make it up the hill. i have to balence on the clutch anbd rev it to 3500 or so to even have the guts.
from a stop if i rev it to 4k and try to launch, well it just bogs back down and then revs up slow as could be.
*What I Think:*
Maybe the cats are clogged. The precat and cat maybe? That would explain why sooo much of the exhaust is commin out the leak, And the total lack of power down low.
so what do you think.. cats? should i go all 3 inch? im getting a fcd soon, and i already got a walbro and boost gauge. I want to make power with this thing.
But i do need to drive it to work everyday. how will 3" dp and all effect that?
I read that 2.5" wont make that much of a difference in creating boost. Is this true?
how do i tune the car...
Let me know what you think.

update.... there seems to be exhaust comming from everywhere... passenger side engine compartment... if you stand there near the pass said shock tower... you get hit in the face with lots of exhaust. it make my eyes burn.
So i guess i really need to address the exhaust leaks from the turbo back.
For what reason would the car idle up when put in gear?
when i have the clutch down, and it in neutral the car idles at 780 or so...
I took it around the block and it was idleing at 1300 when i got back. now i was sitting there with the car idleing clutch in and put it in first. it idled up to 1800... i took it out and it went back to 1300.
I repeated this a few times to proove it wasent just me.
I dunno what to do, i guess its time to fix the exhaust and take it somewhere to someone who knows what they are doin.
The BAC idle screw does not change the idle. The cold start thing dosent seem to work.
im lost. help!

i just got the car... it sat for 3 years.... it has no power.. but compression is good.
will exhaust leaks make it have no power?
why does the R/L screw do nothing nor does the BAC idle adjust screw

STUCK. I got SNOWNED!!!!!

ehehehe.. I've just had a MILLION idle problems with my car... so have alot of other people.. so it seems the only thing left to do is change motors
I think you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Does the idle ever pulse/become erratic?
Vacuum leaks can suck power bigtime, because they become boost leaks., and then the tuning goes off, and then.. etc, etc
I need to get a boost gauge myself.. hmm
I'm sure I've got a big vacuum leak somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere...
As for throttle response, I have none either.
Your cats might be clogged, my precat on my 50k mile '88 was totally melted and my main cat was pretty much clogged from crap from the precat.. and this is a 50k mile car (not even that, more like 45) that's been owned by a lady since new and rarely taken above 3000 RPM
The twin scroll has a habit of sticking/whatever, and it will cause a lack of boost up high. I'm not sure that you have this problem.
Anyone in your area that knows these cars well and can look at the car for you?
Another thing you can do: unbolt your exhaust at the end of the precat, see how the car feels. It will ALWAYS be better, especially under WOT... but if you notice huge gains everywhere, even down low, you've probably found your problem.
Note: the car will not exactly be quiet when this happens, so be sure to do it during the day

ok now thats an answer i like.. lol thanks for the responce... ill check it out.
i think i may have an exhaust leak at the turbo to precat joint... there is exhaust comming out into the enginebay near passinger side shock tower. it burns my eyes and all.
so i think i need to check that out too... kinda hard to do i dont have the right tools and layin in the dirt is fun.
Im kind of scared to get plate and insurance if its not going to work
i guess ill do it and gamble that it will work out in the end
