$450 10th Ani

Hey Guys!

I bought a 10th Ani with some front end damage a few weeks ago. Hasn't been started in 1.5 years. I've take the fenders, bumper, hood off(damaged things). And now I want to start it. So far I did a oil change(looked very dirty) and oil filter. I've also dumped about 1 1/2 ounces of MMO in each lower spark plug hole. The engine looks in pretty good shape. Is there anything else I should do before I try to start it?

Pics are at www.pbase.com/jlahey/10th_ani

Thanks!

$450 for a 10AE with mods? You could sell the mods alone for over twice as much as you paid for the car (not that you'd want to).Good deal

I'd suggest you drain the fuel and put some new stuff in. 1 1/2 years would probably say it's bad. You probably should do coolant, but you wont need to to start it up. I can't think of anything else.

I plan on draining the half a tank of gas that's in it tonight before I try to fire it up. How bad will it smoke with Marvel Mystery Oil in there instead of ATF? Coolant looks very clean, but if I have any heat problems I'll swap it out. Those are the only mods that I know of, he was running 1 bar of boost(~14psi isn't it?). Who knows, maybe the turbo is upgraded, plus injectors? My main goal is to get it running, then hand it over to the body shop and get it repaired + new paint. I've got the front end stripped anyways already. It looks like there's less damage than there is, but I don't mind spending $3k fixing it up and having a very nice TII let alone a 10th Ani. Anyone know where I can get a badge for the front left fender, it was stolen while it was parked

Crank the engine over with the fuel pump fuse out and the plugs removed. It will have no compression, and therefor be easier to spin. You'll get some oil pressure in it, and loosten everything up. Then, put the plugs and fuse back in and fire it up!
Have fun!

Sweet deal. That is just a little baby dent! Well, maybe not baby, but the car is worth more than that! So lucky...

$450? Where am I when deals like this are going on? I would have told him I'll take It, even before he finished telling me about the AE. Great deal.

Damn that is one hell of a deal.

The RB turbo-back is worth the 450 alone...

Thanks guys for all the thumbs up I can't wait to get outta school and start working on it more. I'm in need of fenders and a bumper(stock or aftermarket). I'd really like something close to the border of Canada or in Canada. What should I be paying for them too?

Well, we don't know if mine will be easy to get running until tonight. Gawd, can't wait till class is over. I'm going with a freind after school to check out a 87 N/A for $1200. Then were going to start to work on the AE.

IT"s ALIVE!

Well, got home from school. Cleared around the car, and moved it outta the garage. When we were rolling it outta the garage, I put it in 4th and poped the clutch and she turned over(didn't start, just wanted to see if it was seized). Used a sifen(sp?) hose to drain the old gas, and when it was done, the hose was stuck in there! We used a hanger to get it out. So we check everything, and I try to turn it over. Tried 4-5 times of 10 second starts and it wouldn't turn over. I was not impressed. But then, i remember there's this weird switch in my center console which I thought was for the fog lights(which were removed when the bumper was off). I tried to start it again, and then while i was trying, i flipped the switch.

Then the rotary went Hmmmmmmmmm

Let it warm up for a bit. Would stall if i took my foot off the throttle. Then, it started smoking from above the O2 sensor. It's night, and I can't figure it out right now. Any ideas?

make sure all the gaskets are full, if you hear funny noises sounding like animals being trapped in your fan shroud, then its probably a blown out gasket. Smoke *might* be the oil seals on the turbo, see what color it is, what it smells like..etc.

My brother had a gasket that was half gone on the turbo=>manifold and it spewed oil everywhere, so keep a look out for gasket failures

Hey nice to hear that she's purring for ya! And the fog light switch helped to start the car? SHeeeesh... Maybe I gotta try that on? lol But really I almost got mine started last night, today I'm gonna wire up a switch for the fuel pump. Should be no problems today. I'm glad you got yours up and running, and with all the xtra stuff on yours, it makes me jealous

Peace
