$3000 for an 87 TII?? need your opinion
i just caught a guy walking out to his 7 and chatted a bit.
He asked me if i wanted to buy his car, after some looking i offered $3000 for it.
Its in **** poor shape...
1987 TII coupe w/ sunroof
1) passenger power window does not roll down
2) yellow front quater panel (body is red)
3) 171000 miles on clock
4) radio antenna hole (nothing there, just a hole)
5) dude is a smoking slob, the interior stinks of 555 smoke
6) power sunroof needs to be replaced or fixed (rust)
or should i keep my 88 na that i paid 1700 for and been working on for 3 years, runs well, looks decent, stock, and does not stink of cigarette smoke??

Yes that does sound too high. Is this what your talking about?
blue book pricing
I had to pick "Fair" condition because they dont even give a value on "Poor" condition. Should also combine that with a carfax vehicle history report for $20. I would be apprehensive if someone just asked me if I wanted to buy their car like that when it looks as it does.
Irregardless of those resources and their determinations I wouldnt even touch that car for that price and those problems.
But of course, is this a project car? If so I guess its ok to start from that situation.

I paid $1,200 for an 87 N/A with 197,000 miles on it a couple months ago. Runs smooth, with a ding here & there.....heat & A/C work, but you have to use some manual levers installed under the dash.
Still have it; daily beater to work & back; then for golf on Saturdays, cause my clubs fit in the hatch. If I drive my 93 RX-7 then my clubs are in the passenger seat.

Anyways, I paid 700 for one with simular problems (mainly rot and a need of a sunroof, fenders, hatch and rear bumper), but less miles and some modifications. Fixing it up wont cost to much (may need a turbo rebuild). But overall itll be in good shape for less then a thousand (or more) put into it. Which in the end will be as much as a TII up here with the same mods. Remember, just because its there doesn't mean you have to buy it.
What he says for the price is very stupid also. You can find a good condition TII or modded TII for under $5,000 (always can be lower also ), but usually for $2,500 to $3500. Just wait it out. Itll work.
PS I wanted to buy Revvin7's car bad when he had it up for sale. Great mods for like $4,000.

What you all aren't taking into consideration is that the poster of this thread OFFERED the guy $3k
I'm sure the car owner went home and said "man i got a guy who really wants this" and tried to hike up the price being greedy...

yep thats outrageous for a car wit those problems. I got my 87 t2 which was completely stock with a small oil leak and faded paint for 1k. It runs good and was clean with decent tires and passed emissions with flying colors(for a rotary). Keep looking you should be able to find one for arund 2500-3500 in good condition. It may take a few months but its worth the wait.

3k for a t2 with a good body and interior is well worth it. Now if the one you are looking at body is messed up you should try and work out a price. Basically figure out what it needs to be ready in running condition. I would allow 2000 bucks for a rebuild/clutch/fuel injectors cleaned before buying any rotary. And the fender thing is just cosmetic. find a same color fender in a bone yard and bolt it on. So 5k for a t2 seems very reasonable to me

Replaced body panels should be an automatic red flag!
It's most likely the car has been in an accident.
Be very careful about looking for the tall-tale signs of "hidden" accident damage.
It could be as minor as just the panel being scraped, but it could be catastrophic as a shifted frame.
BEWARE...
