Why You Chose the FC?

So as we all know... most people are probably on winter break and don't have much to do.

As for me, I don't have my fc, I don't have a job to attend, and my girl is 1000 miles from me... so needless to say i'm bored. So to pass some time I have a question for all you fc lovers out there.

1. Why did you chose to own an fc (if that's your only rx7)? Was it the only one you could afford or is it the most appealing to you?

2. If money wasn't a problem would you still chose an fc or any other car out there?

One thing i've noticed with rotary owners is that the majority of us are kinda... out there, lol. We think outside the box, we experiment, 'occassionally' learn from our mistakes, but most of all we like to be different. I know I do. I 'fell in love' with my first 88 se rx7 that was given to me. It was an n/a automatic with a blown coolant seal so it was by no means fast but it wasn't like everything else on the road. It didn't sound like everything else out there either and I was proud of it. So eventually I lost that car due to the seal and got my TII which was like stepping in a race car when I first drove it, lol. I could go on forever but I want to hear some other stories from u guys... What makes you a rotary owner?

1. Because it's cheap, turbocharged, and quick.
1b. No I could have afforded more, but it was the only S5 TII in the area after a year of looking so I jumped on it.

2. Still an FC, I love it.

Well, the primary reason I chose the FC because I did indeed kind of fall in love with it. I've never liked vehicles that are "just a car" (I've owned a 91' Ford Windstar, 98' Saturn SL2, 02' GMC Sonoma). I hated the Saturn for being a common Saturn which I know alone with no money, upgrading it and making it decently quick would have been very ricey of me. The truck was a truck with a 4.3L so I didn't really bother nor did I want to since it's the newest vehicle I've ever had. The Ford Windstar I loved since it was a van from hell. Drove it to and fro as well! (It blewy!). Then came the FC.
I've always loved the rotary engine for its simplicity in design and engineering. I've also liked the fact that, it was 80's styling with pop-up headlights through all gens. I admit, I was kind of only have $3000 to spend on a car, but I wouldn't perhaps gotten a 10th ae or just a better already FC instead of my poor conditioned one. Needless to say that I love it; drives well, quicker, light, styling, etc. etc. Also didn't help that my brother has an FD that I always wanted to "Out-do". (he's got 4 years and $30,000 on me)...

1. got my 7 by luck and found it in a family members storage unit and have loved it ever since.

2. I think I would still have it because my favorite part about this car is that I never see anyone else with one near me, and I love having something unique to me.

1) I bought one cause I felt like getting a new car. But didn't have a ton of money to spend.. And my friend mentioned that it was a fast car.. So I bought it.. And owned it for 24 hours.. Then it owned me..

2) FC All the way. No way I would get rid of it.. ever. Owned 3 other cars while I've owned my FC and my FC has always been my favorite.. My ex always asked if it came between her and my RX7, which one I would choose.. I always told her that would never happen because I was married to my RX-7.. and she was like my mistress .. Well like I said, shes my ex..

I would definetly agree with that. Not only that but knowing you have a different and a better engine then the average joe.

I remember when I was younger I seen fc's driving down the road, and thought it was the ugliest car i've ever seen. Then I seen one up close and fell in love instantly. Started out with an 86 base model, sold that and got into the current 87 t2. I searched for this car for months and months and months, and got lucky with 124k km's and 4k km's on rebuild. Couldn't be happier ...... Well no let me rephrase that, I could be happier with an fd!

1. My first car was a fb GSL. wrecked it the first wk I got my L's...HAHA I'm on my forth now! ALL because of the rotary. NEVER SWAP!

2. I laugh when I talk to my girl bout selling it!i would only sell it to get a better(wired) one. So whats the point?!? i could afford a FD but something about the DIY possiblities of the fc. Its Japanese muscle at it finest!

1) Engine. I was like: "Gotta get me a Wankel engine powered car".

Oh yeah, I kinda like the design style too. I like the styling of the 80's/90's Japanese cars.

2) I always liked cars that are kind of unique. I don't wanna drive a car I see every day, or that one of my mates drives. If I had unlimited funds there would be atleast a 100 "sub-100-grand-cars" I would buy, before ever conciddering a Ferrari, Lambo or whateva. If I had to chose a car for the rest of my life, without the possibilty of selling it, and I had to choose between a FC and a F430, I would go for the cheap Mazda. I would even pick the FC out of the FC or FD pick.

Riz.

fell in love with the style after owning a 91 eclipse gsx with my brother. found an 88 gxl that i could afford. kept it until it caught fire twice in two weeks. sold it off which i regretted. picked up a 91 gxl. it has been down most of the past two years...but it being brought back to life.

would still keep the fc. a few cars out there would challenge my love of the fc, but would not sway me away from it. been thru too much to do it and i would set it on fire before anyone else would take posession of it.

Growing up I've always wanted a sports car to fix up (my dad owned an old Datsun sports car, a late 70s convertible FIAT, and an early 80s Toyota MR2; in that order). At first I wanted the Mark IV Supra (my parents had a truck, a Previa, and an MR2 at the time), but FnF killed that idea. A neighbor of mine had a Porsche 944 Turbo, but parts were expensive and hard to come by. Then I was turned onto the FD, but for some reason it didn't appeal to me all that much. I saw pictures of the FC and fell in love, per say. I liked the boxier style and pop-up headlights reminiscent of my dad's MR2. When it came time to buy a car to build, I decided on the FC. I wanted a TII, but at the time most of them had been messed with. I found a clean, stock, S5 GTU for a really good deal and went from there. So in short, price and style won out. haha

If money wasn't a problem, the FC would definately be on the list of many. If money wasn't a problem at the time and I could only choose one car, it wouldn't have been an FC. It may have been the FD, RX-3, RX-2, or a '72 skyline.

I first heard about the FC because it is RWD, i refuse to drive a FWD car.

So i started looking into it and found that I could afford it and it looked pretty nice in pictures and i had never seen one on the road.

I then saw one in person at a rotary shop near me i never even knew about and knew that this was the car for me, a week later i towed that car home.

I then spent the next 6 months working on it and getting it running perfect. and just keep loving it more and more.

The only thing that I really think it needs isa V8, something about the styling just begs for a V8. I plan to get another FC shell and drop an LS1 in it when i get the $$$ later.

ahh this is a fun thread
1. Well i first had a muscle car and hated driving that boat. And i remember when i was a small child my dad had a 1st gen rx7. he had sold it quite a few years ago. So when i wanted someting more nimble, i desided on a 1st gen rx7. Drove that for a year. And i saw fcs and thought they were ugly!. Then somehow i found this na for 1500 that was appealing to me. bought it and been hooked on FC's ever since!.

Ive had quite a few fc's a handfull of na's a convertable, couple t2's ive even turboed one of my NA fc's i was allways tyring to find good deals, and have only payed over 1000 for a running FC once( my first on one) ( yes my first t2 was 700 running, my current t2 i picked up for 1000, running with a rebuild!)
ive slowed down the last yr or so
and have kind of settled down on keeping just 2 FC's a 87 T2, and a 86 sport that has a turboed 6 port motor in it. Tho i do miss the vert when the sun comes out!

2. If money wasn't a problem would you still chose an fc or any other car out there?
Hmm id prolly go for an FD but id still keep at least one FC around. Working on an FD just looks plain scary. The fc is very easy to work on as i know it inside and out.

For me, I was without a running vehicle and had $3250 from doing a clinical study at OSU last November. What I wanted to do was turn my first car (1995 Mitsubishi mirage coupe) into a Lancer Evolution by getting an Evo 3 front cut. But since my importer of choice said they couldn't get them anymore due to EPA regulations (wtf?), that plan was derailed. So I hopped on craigslist and started scouring the columbus area for the FR vehicles featured in Initial D. Found one ST184 Celica GTS in lousy riced shape, a couple S13s in decent shape, a questionable AE86 and a VERY tempting S14 with a SR20DET swap. But I guess a S13 or S14 just wasn't in the cards for me. After all of those had disappeared, I stumbled upon a white 1987 RX7 with only 90,000 miles on it and a cache of body panels and 5-speed swap all for $1500. After running the idea past my grandpa, he said it'd be worth looking into. He had a 1974 RX3 wagon, bought new in the 70s and loved it, but just couldn't handle its need to be warmed up every time. When I saw it for the first time, the FC had been hit in the driver's side rear quarter panel and bondo'ed up to keep rust off, as well as having a salvage rebuilt title because of it. Other than that, it drove well and felt very lively for its age. Right after the test drive, I offered the owner $1400 in cash and drove it home..

Overall, I'm pretty impressed with my trash-to-treasure FC, despite its flaws. Since I bought it, I've replaced the alternator with a FD one, added a set of FD wheels with practically new tires to replace the ailing ones on the sawblades, did the 5-speed swap and swapped to a FD fuel pump, all of which were necessities and a pretty good deal too. With the FD wheels, I noticed that my suspension is in need of an upgrade, so coilovers will be the next step along with a decent catback to replace the tetanus-inducing original. Plus, I have a couple very interesting projects in store for it, just need some time and cash to get them beta-tested on my car first.

I gotta admit, something just feels right about a rotary. Plus, I've made some good friends because of my FC, so I doubt I'd trade it for anything.

My first FC was an 87 and the first time I drove it I fell in love. I loved the response and the way it handled. The car had some bad oil seals and I'm glad it got totaled out a year later. I've had my current FC, an 86 sport since 1997. We've been through it all together and I swore I'd fix it up right. I pretty much learned how to work on cars with this car and have spent way too much on her to let her go. If money wasn't an option I'd probably still own some high powered rotary vehicle among others

TX FC Love

Well at first I had no idea what a rotary was and that the RX-7's had them. When I found out what a rotary engine was I just lost my mind and knew I had to get a 7. After looking around all I could find was FC's in my area. I don't think of any 7 as less appealing or more appealing cause they each have something different to offer. Anyways, I choose the FC cause I love the pop-up lights and the sleek box like styling is simple yet sporty look and cause (I hate to say it) was in initial_D.

2. My first love was a 3000GT VR-4 or the GTO MR If I had the money to buy that car I mostly likely wouldn't have my FC now. Now that I have grown to love my car though I would still keep the FC over the 3KGT cause I have done so much work on her she is like a person to me now. I don't think I could ever get rid of my Eva

1. It's a rotary.
2. It was a rear wheel drive drift project to tackle.
3. It wasn't a 240sx.
4. It was much less expensive to purchase than an FD.
5. It's sexy!!

I chose the fc because of the style of the body. i see cars that are new today and some of the body designs are just horrible. and its RWD

and it was i can afford

Well I flipped my lancer a while ago and I was on the lookout for another ride. I wanted something sporty. I really wanted a rwd car and it had to be a manual transmission.

I was thinking about a 240 (my sister used to have one and I loved it) but one of my best friends bought 2 fc shells for $500 in Houston. I helped him tow them back and I changed my mind about any other car.

Soon after I found an fc convertible for $1500 just a few miles down the road. Needed a new paint job and new top, but the title was clean (just one owner) and it ran! I drove it for a month or so until the motor finally blew, I knew it needed a rebuild when I bought it.

Right now I have a rebuilt motor with a few upgrades at my buddies house waiting to go in. I have to wait until he is done with his T2 swap! Until then I am pimpin around in a 92 accord! lol

Well, I'd been looking for a car for a while and finally I heard my aunt was selling her old car for $500. Turns out to be a '90 GXL garage kept all its life. So I didn't really choose an FC, but I'm lovin it.

She apparently chose it because she wanted a car that could handle well and was relatively fast. Two things the FC does quite well. Definitely worth the original sticker price of 20,803.75
