Can anyone tell me what this is?



It was in a tool bag that came with either my 88 vert or my 88 TII.

 

It looks like it is for turning the brake caliper piston back when changing brake pads.

 

+1 but never seen one like this style.

 

It does look like it, but I gotta believe it's for a lighter use. That plastic handle wouldn't do much for any caliper that I've come across.

Maybe a manual convertible top retractor? I don't have my car to check anymore.

 

Most likely candidate so far.

 

That tool is used to put spikes into golf shoes. Or it looks like one anyway.

 

ive had my share of verts and coupes, none of them had that.

Golf shoe tool seems like a better candidate

 

Never seen one before, and I definitely don't have one hidden somewhere in my vert.

 

It's for turning in rear brake calipers.

I use a similar tool at work almost everyday.

The tool that is used for opening the sun roof/moon roof looks quite a bit different than the spike tool for shoes.

 

How thoughtful of Mazda to include such an esoteric tool.
They really knew their target audience, hey?

Honestly though I would have guessed its for the rear brakes.

 

I'd assume that a previous owner may have put it in the car, rather than Mazda. Unless there was an optional golfer package available through dealers .

So you're saying it wasn't Mazda that thoughtfully left the phillips head screwdriver wedged under the battery tray, the half empty box of Marlboros and $.56 in change under the driver's seat?

The tool that is used to manually move the roof can be seen in the Special Tools section of the series five FSM that can be downloaded from this site.

Anybody who has ever worked on a Jaguar engine built b/t 1950 and the early 1970s, KNOWS this is the tool to set the tension on the overhead cams timing chain. See Jaguar manual.

The two *dogs* are inserted in the tensioner *gear* so you can turn the tensioners cam to take the slack out of the chain. IF you don't use the right tool and use a pair of vice grips on the tensioner, you bugger up the fine teeth on the tensioner.

 

It cost me $.55 to repair my console so I believe this time we really do have a "mute point".

I'm not a golfer. I once heard a comedian say that golf is a result of homo-phobia. It sounds gay to say, "Let's go for a walk in the park and talk." So, instead, they bring ***** and clubs and say, "Let's go do 9 holes". Wait, that sounds kinda gay too...
