They are apart of the "sport" model aero package, if that helps at all.. I'm not sure what they are called.

Actually thats the european turbo 2. Hense the marker locations on the fenders and the "missing" markers on the front moulding piece. They came factory with the "Sport" aero package.

I had those on my first rx7 88 T2. I am pretty sure they came factory on it. I got the car when it was 10 years old and it was all original and the bolts for them were about as rusted as the rest of the boltsunder the car.

Good answer, but I don't think this is the case...
I think whoever built that car went into great lengths to add the side markers.
I still think it's a Sport model with a TURBO II sticker on it...
The side mirror is in the wrong position for a RHD?
I would think you could see the top of the instrument cluster through the window if it's a RHD...and possibly the steering wheel.
The rear tail lights are wrong for a Zenki model - black rub strips.
And the side marker light under the gas tank fill is from an early 1986 model?
All later models have that overhang that keeps spilt gas from spilling onto the light.

Side note, all 1988 Turbo II's have those aero pieces with the exception of the duck-bill rear spoiler.
Else, you'd need to gank them off an '86 - '87 Sport model.

And maybe the lighting is messing with me, but those don't look like the aero mirrors either.

Only US models (North American?) came with Zenki aero mirrors.
Almost everyone else...Europe and Japan...had those "plain" mirrors.

They look like their aero spats installed backwards.....
I have the same thing on my Subaru. That or it's some aero
appearance package. I doubt those are Mazda products, I
could be wrong though.

So...in that case mine got removed sometime in the last 20 years? The same with most 88 TII's then, because I don't have them, and I haven't seen many that have. Am I just not paying attention enough to little details like that?

They fall off rather easily.
I've seen then on every '88 Turbo II down here though...

All the 88 turbos had them except the 10thAE, which some got the front ones and some didn't.
