I'm guessing Key number or something...but, no clue, lol.

Its usualy the number Locksmiths use to cut new keys, without tracing the originals.

Go to any Mazda dealer...
Tell them what year and model your Mazda is...
Give them the 4 digit #...

And they can cut you a new key in a matter of minutes.
They don't need the original to make you a new one.

Nothing.
If the Mazda dealer is lazy, then they can be cutting keys left and right.
They SHOULD be asking for proof of ownership - either reg or title + ID.

This is one of the reasons why I broke off the VIN plate on the windshield.
This prevents thieves from getting my VIN and then getting a key cut from an unwary Mazda dealer.
If cops get all pissy about the VIN, I just open my door or lift the hood for proof.
