What can be done to help the interior?

I'm a big interior guy. I've looked around and can't find any threads specifically about this. What have people done to there interior to make them look a bit more modern? I'm thinking about painting the dash plastic a nice shiny black (not overly shiny) and maybe getting some nice seats of some sort. I think what really sets it off is the old amber lighting. Anyone have any input for this?

i think it was rob?? with the black vert who painted the center console gloss black, looks pretty good you might wanna check that out.

Maybe upgrade your steering wheel to one of those modern nardi miata looking wheels or an jspec FD steering wheel would be clean

If your brave, you could change the gauge faces. White, or even indiglos

*hahah dont ask, i happened to have this pic saved on my hard drive for some reason, didnt think it looked too bad*

Swap it to black

I was thinking of painting my FC interior black, but it would take more time to make it durable and decent looking that to simply swap in another interior. That and I got the complete black interior (w/out the rear sail panels...) for $100. Check around the FS sections or junkyards for a decent black dash, or try dying your own instead of painting it.

Thanks guys! Keep em coming!

The gloss black idea might be the ticket, or maybe just fresh black paint...not gloss.

Converting it to black sure does help, and I'd be willing to bet that I'd be much happier with my interior if I shampood the carpets. Previous owner didn't clean them very well. I upgraded to nicer floormats and that helped a lot. black seats with black floormats will be nice (need the seats!). it's a grey interior so black doesn't stand out too bad.

Nardi miata steering wheel? Never heard of it? Is it a special edition miata wheel or something? The stock wheel isn't the best looking

As for the gauges, I had indiglo back about 7 years ago and will never go back to those again haha. I would love if the gauges lit up white some how

Here's a few pictures of what i've been working on with my interior-

It's of course not done yet but looks better than that at the moment, those pictures are a few weeks old.

I need to shampoo and spray black the carpet I have for it and it should look 10x better.

The entire interior will be mainly black with white as can be seen.

I'll take a more recent picture of it later if anybody is interested.

As far as grey interior goes like your's im not sure.
Like you and the others said, I agree with a shiny black accent, such as I did with the white.
Not the glove box though of course haha.

clean everything, change the shifter and ebrake boot, new pedals- that stuff wont break the bank. A few well placed gauges and a nice head unit does good to get things cleaned up. Nicer floor mats.

I got new seats going in this winter, I also have a black carpet and door panels I might put in, not sure yet on the door panels.
Im also going to change the floor mats this winter as well.

Swap it to black
Best idea ever. That's what I did. I have an S4 that had ugly grey and I swapped in a black S5 interior. I even got the rear hatch cover. All I need is the black leather seats and I'm done. (or Efinis )

Before

During

AFTER. I took the gauges off the dash eventually

Black and Clean

Little dirty, but right after the install.

One of my personal touches... LED Lambda to replace the clock

I still have some work to do; LCD display, black leather seats, floor mats, but it's better than grey.

fc is just too 80s to have white interior trim pieces..
in my old s13 i painted some trim white and it looked pretty good because of the contours of the dash.

Agree, white doesnt work very well in the FC. Blue and Black are by far the only colors i agree on in the FC without changing its design.

Now if i COULD change the design, i really like the MSAxela interior. Id swap that **** out in a heart beat.

i just posted these pictures in another thread before i saw this one and don't really like to double post my pics, but here are the pics since you're asking for interior shots.

i personally like the 80's look of our interior along with the amber lights, but it helps to add/replace worn out things inside your car. like someone mentioned above, replace the shifter, pedals, steering wheel, shift & ebrake boots, clean up your interior really well. i dont like painting a lot of stuff in the interior because it looks out of place to me. just try to keep it simple and clean. i'm overdue for a newer steering wheel as mine is starting to crack, but yeah. u can also get a wider rear view mirror and new seats (racing seats always look clean to me). Black interior looks best to me, but Gray and Blue can look just as good, just keep it clean. hope this helps.

nice interior, and nice pictures as well.
one of the reasons im torn on re-doing my gauges is because part of me wants to keep them stock, and part of me wants to redo them so I can put a nice double din radio in.

I actually like the fabric on the door panels, but you can also easily change that out to perforated vinyl if you liked, I see all your little icons light up on the climate control
as well, only one of my cars does that.

these are the seats I have to install this winter, cant wait to see how they look inside the car.

I had wanted cloth seats, but could not find any that were reasonable in price, these seats I got also came with brackets and sliders.

The unit is an Avic D3.

Waiting till I sort out some logicon wiring in my car before I swap over to a black or grey interior. I can live with red for now heh. Might go with grey since I don't have AC, and Black in the summer is deadly!
