The FC's in the pics have GXL wheels or steelies.... WTF is with that?

That's what they looked like back in the 80s... before the 18" wheel and "proper fitment" were invented.

Actually, early S4 JDM Turbo cars were fitted with the 15" baloney slicer wheels. They didn't offer the 16" wheel in Japan right away.

?? N/A's came stock with steelies? Seriously, look at the pics.

The "balony slicers" GXL wheels on turbo cars in JDM land is crazy. Really, hard to believe. Then again most stuff from the 80's was.

I think the only FCs in the U.S. market that came stock with steelies were some of the earlier S4 4-lug base cars. But again in Japan, the steel wheels were more common, sometimes even appearing on the GT Limited (Turbo) model.

Take a look at some of the photos in this thread. Somebody from Canada on the forum just bought an S5 that has factory 15" steelies:
