I really wish I had more stupid stories to tell about the FC, but it seems most people here (in a place ridden with BMWs, Benz's, and Porsches) are respectful of them. I've had a few thumbs up/"nice car", some people that see my car ask me, "rotary engine, right?".

With such a unique engine... should we be surprised that not many people know of it? I mean, some of the details of our engine I've only learned by frequenting this forum for almost a year. While I find this thread funny, I've actually gotten a lot of these comments but not actually laughing at the time. I was starting to develop a similar attitude as most people on this forum, the attitude that "those who don't know about rotaries are ignorant fools," but you have to remember it's only ignorance when you teach them and they choose not to learn. Not everyone is born with knowledge about everything.

 

Random kid - "what kind of gas are u running in that thing?"
Me - "normall pump gas"
Random kid - "really? we were riding behind u for about 10 mins and i dont think i've ever been this high in my life"

 

friend-"do you have an exhaust leak?"
me-"no..."
friend-"then why is your car so loud?"
lol

 

Two of the dumbest ones I've ever heard, first was a guy in a Napa parking lot
as I was getting ready to leave, he runs up to my car.

Guy: You know your car smoking?
Me: Yeah it uses oil....
Guy: I got a great mechanic that can fix that!
Me: Oh for the love of christ.......

Second one was a guy who asked me what kinda porsche I had,
I told him it was a rx, and he had heard of those, don't they
have little spinning circles in them? My response was "What?!"

 

haha a guy i know was checking out local car listings because he wanted to see if there was any nice rx7's around since i had just bought one and he came across an FD at a dealership claiming the engine was a "2 cylinder 1.3 liter" my friend goes "wait a second wtf! theres no ******* way your car goes that fast with only 2 cylinders!" i just started cracking up

 

my mates mum said that my car sounds like a 1000 kittens purring.
lol

 

lol..yep - but that's cuz you could hear my car coming a few hundred feet away. i guess the noise intimidates them. i love it

me- "oh yeah, 13B.. I thought you said team B. I was like WTF are you talking about".

I was remarking to a friend about the smell I give off after driving my car, part of it is two stroke oil, and part of it is japanese food (I work at a japanese restaurant). I said I was probably one of a handful of people in the world that smell like two-stroke oil and japanese food, he said maybe the US- and I was suddenly reminded where Rx7s came from....japan....DUR!!

 

My school called my house to complain because my car is too loud. I told my mom this and she laughed so hard...

Who else can say that????

the other day i was driving to a friends house with my other friend driving behind me. well i look over to the side and i see guys using a weed wacker and riding mower and i look back at my friend in the mirror and he's laughing. ill admit, i did too haha

I brought my car (FD) into BMW during lunch (I'm a tech) to change the fuel filter. And this one loud mouth thinks he knows everything about imports guy walks up "OH Is this a TURBO one?? My Buddy has one that was NA then swapped to the turbo, but i can keep up with it in my integra so im like wtf blah blah" I'm like ..erryea sure.

 

back a few years ago people in high school said "you should go into the auto shop and have the teacher help u work on ur engine." i just smile and said "the teacher wouldnt even know what to do."

 

true that, as much as i thought my autoshop teacher was smart as hell, he had no clue about these engines.

i believe i even caught him when i had an oil leak. he told me to check my head gasket. lol

 

why would he tell you to check ur head gasket, even on a piston motor

 

because sometimes thats the culprit on a piston motor..

 

hmm... never had an oil leak from my head gasket... valve covers maybe...

every time i blew a head gasket i started puffin hella white smoke, like when a water seal goes

 

My gf was driving my vert with the top down, she pulled into a gas station and some little dumb *** walked up to her and started telling her what an awesome mustang she had. She told him that it was an rx7, and he asked her if that was a special kind of mustang...

And the other day i was cruising by the dealerships at the automall with a buddy of mine, he was looking at cars and i wanted to swing by the mazda/subaru dealer to take a look. The car salesman instantly comes up, starts telling us that we should buy an STI, i told him no thanks, im a rotary guy. Then he proceeded to tell me how they have tons of problems... the only two he gave me were the rotors in the engine always get chipped, and the engines only last about 70k miles.

 

i hear on a daily basis to watch out that my motor is only gonna last me 60k, its impossible that they will go any more than that. I'm sick of hearing that.

 

my teacher saw me once driving home from school in my FC, ... some weeks later
he asked me: "you have a rx7 right?"
I say "yeah"
and he said "and your car still runs?"
me: "sure, ...why do you ask?"
teacher: "didn't they had those wankel engines?"
