Just because they don't know anything about rotary engines or RX-7s doesn't makes them a complete retarded moron. I run into those ignorant people at car shows, car meets, anything car related. I get the same questions thrown at me all the time, but it doesn't bother me. It doesn't make me smarter, faster, or altogether a BETTER PERSON just because I know what a rotary engine is. I don't know what this attitude is, but it needs to change. Our cars are unique, so lets stop tainting the RX-7 name and let other people know that the guys who drive them are just as unique as what's underneath their hood.
the problems is that 99% of the ppl talk about the rx7's like their pieces of **** cars & etc.
if a guy pulls up to me and say, rotary sucks youll blow your engine before 80 000km, apex seals this apex seals that.... thats the only thing they know is tu bash on our cars. while they dont know jack-**** about them .....
ppl that comes to us and are like: "whoa, nice rx7, and ask questions with the intention of "learning" something, not to try to prove that they know what it is when they dont know what it is.... like my friend's sister's byfriend's cousin's dad had one and said those sucks....WHO CARES !!!
if had to many ppl trying to be smart-asses while it blew up in their face....
i had this kid once (when i had my Skyline powered 240sx) tell me that my car had no differential, .....HOW THE HELL CAN SOMEONE WHO OWNS A CAR CAN SAY A STUPID THING LIKE THAT. i showed him my big *** Skyline diff and asked him what was that then ... he told me: "i dont know, maybe your transmission, but i know for sure your car doesnt have a differential...."
when you get those kind of ppl , there no point in saying anything....

i have to agree with the last couple guys on being an *** to people about my 7. even though i own both a piston car (datsun 280z) and my 7 (90 s5 n/a), i do get alot of the obviously stupid questions, but when people ask me WHAT kind of engine, it makes the convo easier. if they dont try to figure something out but rather ask me, its easier for me to explain. i work at fry's and sell car audio, so im used to answering LOTS of questions.
another story (i keep getting them)
the last couple of weeks, ive been getting away from straight line racing, and getting into much more treacherous mountain road racing. as you know, 7s are better handling than most cars i know or have driven. last night SLPIN and i went driving up in some CRAZY *** scary mountain roads, they are both wet, foggy, and SHEER cliff on both sides.
call me crazy, but i prefer beating "mod'd" cars in leading and trailing while "touging"
thats just me, but dragging just doesnt do me they way mountain racing at night does.
peace

Browsing the web earlier about the 787B Le Mans car, there was a response about the rotary engine going something like this...
"The rotary engine has terrible seals due to the rotation of the rotors. It loses more compression than a conventional piston does."
The guy who posted that also claimed that he "loved" rotary engines as well. Do the piston rings on a piston allow it to retain anymore pressure than a rotary engine's apex or side seals? Honestly, I have to know where guys like these get their information from...

One day my dad said he was going to win the lottery, you know just trying to be enthusiastic about it even though it wont happen. So I said
"When you win the lottery how many RX-7s are you gonna' buy me?"
"About 3, you need that many they always ******* break down on you."

not on topic, but i think it is Awesome when an 18 yr old kid (being myself), can teach a 30+ yr old man that has worked on any and every type of piston engine his whole life, about the rotary, which he has not a drop of knowledge about the mechanics of it.

" 1987 RX-7 TURBO RUNS STRONG. GREAT LOOKING VEHICLE. EXCELLENT PROJECT CAR. NEEDS WORK FOR EVERYDAY USE. NEEDS WATER PUMP OR HEAD GASKET NOT SURE... LIKE I SAID POSSIBLY NEEDS WATER PUMP, OR HEAD GASKET. "
Well I know I am taking a leap of faith, but I think it doesn't need a head gasket.

I was looking at pictures of 7's in keyboarding and my friend next to me said
"What kind of engine does it have?"
"13B Rotary"
"Really? Thats cool... How many cylinders does it have?"
"It doesn't its a rotary."
"So is it like a V8?"
"No, look..." Then i showed him a few pictures of how a rotary works...
And a few months ago my 8yr old cousin made a statement...
"You must pick up all the hoes at your school with that awesome ride!" lol shes awesome...

just yesterday, I met up with a couple friends. And they all know I've put alot of effort into it, so whenever they see me their like "how's the RX-7?" "Can't wait to see it in the summer." But yesterday was different, one of my friends asked me, "What kind of engine does your car have ? Is it a 6 cylinder?" So I replied, "No, its a rotary engine" and I guess one of their friends who I didn't kno heard and replied, "Rotary engine? Thoes things are **** for power" I looked at him, and walked.

today i was talking to one of my buddies about how i want to street port my engine and what not and put some more money into it. and he said thats cool man, so what size cam are you getting. first thing i said was rotary, and a kid behind him smacked him in the head and said, "thats why its called and RX-7". it was way to funny.
