So my neighbor hates me. :(

A while back I had a corksport single on my 60-1 street ported FC. That exhaust was really loud and I didn't care for it too much.. Recently an elderly woman who lives down the next street about 4-5 houses away started complaining telling me I need to fix it. Note, this lady is around 50-65ish. I was very respectful with her and I explained how I have to let the car warmup before driving it. She didn't like that idea at all haha Anyways, this is the culprit

The neighbor lady yet again knocked on my door even after I went back to a dual exhaust. (much quieter than the single) She was filming my car at idle just slightly brapping away on a cold morning.. It was hilarious.. I told her I had a new exhaust put on the car and she had the nerve to say that "It's better, but it's still too loud." Then I got this in my mailbox along with the rest of the neighborhood.

My baby girl is being accused of noise pollution!! That beautiful rotary melody! And the woman really exaggerated when saying I let it warm up for 20-30min. I wish I had that much extra fuel. I'm running on 720/1600cc injectors. I get horrible mpgs..

So i dunno, I'm kinda lost with what to do. The neighbor lady was unhappy, so I paid to get a new exhaust welded on. It's really impossible trying to drive my rx7 cold. The car just wants to bog out and die. So I let it warm up and I drive to class, I don't even drive in front of her house! Thats a different street!

Oh well, the neighbor woman just has awesome hearing for being so old... I really wish she could hear that bov going off at 8000rpm at full boost

Thoughts? and it's really not that loud..and the description of my car in bold does look pretty bad ***!

She would still bitch about something if you had stock exhaust. Don't sweat it just ignore it and move on.

or get it tuned so you don't have to warm it up so much. any decent tune you should be able to jump in, crank it up and drive within 10 seconds.

while she is a bitch, keep in mind there will be things people do that bother you down the road so i would try and work out some middle ground. at this point she is probably fed up hearing it for the warmup cycle, eliminate that and you found that middle ground.

sounds like a simple matter of richening up your coolant temp correction maps.

Sorry, no sympathy for you. It's your fault the car is too loud and if you have to warm it up, there's something wrong with your car. Put the BAC back on, tune it properly, and all you will need to do is jump in it, turn the key, then drive away.

Are you seriously letting the car run for 20 - 30 minutes?! What a waste of time and fuel. If I was your neighbor, I'd be pissed as well. Then I'd get in my bridgeported 500HP FC, start it with one crank and drive away 5 seconds later with an exhaust note that's quieter than the average fart canned Civic. My point being not to brag about my car, but to say your car is too loud.

She would hate my street. You've got my car when I was trying to get it running properly. A series 2 rx7 bridgey Brappin away every now and then. An XB Ford falcon that does laps up and down the street. 2 Ford escort track cars that do laps. My next door neighbour in his s15 that goes in and out his house, honestly, 5-10 times a day (I think he's a dial a dealer). An Old Bugeye starlet that races up the street. A gtt R34 skyline that every now and then does skids up the street. The gtx familiar that boosts up and down. The s14 that fails at doing burnouts outside my house. And randoms doing skids in the middle of the night. Haha. Just a quiet Deadend street

+1 RotaryEvolution/Aaron Cake

From my understanding it's better to jump in and drive gently until it warms up, than to let it idle up to temp.

RB exhaust time ?

@aaroncake I do NOT let the car run for that long in the morning. I stated in my post about that being a huge waste of fuel. She was exaggerating a bit.

I'm looking into getting it retuned. I know you're picturing it being stupid loud but it really isn't. I can't see it being louder than a diesel truck. I'm sure it's quieter actually.

That's cool that they know it's a turbo
Put a silencer in the exhaust if you must.

It probably isn't any louder than a diesel truck, but early in the morning is there a diesel truck driving on your street?

At the beginning of the day in the dead of silence, even a "regular" car is going to sound louder than usual. You don't even have a regular car, do you?

Guess what? You're probably going to find your car keyed pretty soon, and/or tickets coming your way.

the funny thing is that my earliest classes are at 10 and 11... The earliest my car is ever started is 9:30. She's honestly approached me around 11ish before... No one else has had a problem with it and I've already had a few neighbors saying they can't believe this woman's actions..

Quit dicking around and get a sound check on the car.
Until you have numbers- and know what the law has to say- you're in a "he said/she said" standoff and the irate little old lady wins 8 out of 10 times.

No need for a warm up, just let it build oil pressure and drive it easy down the block.
As for the rotary noise in general, I think we get picked on a bit. I personally love the sound of a boosted rotary making big power. My parents think it sounds like **** yet my "ricey sounding import" was faster than my dads 500hp '64 Polara. My 1993 Vr6 Corrado was faster than his 383 Charger. Just personal preference that I like light quick cars and everyone else likes a boat with a v8 lol

The woman knows it's turbo from the stock T2 fender decals. And does a 2003 dodge neon count as a "regular" car lmao?

Keying? really?

What a bitch. No need to leave it in everyone's mailbox. Did it have a stamp? It's against the law if it doesn't.

This is a difficult subject because as rx7 owners WE do not think our cars are "that loud" but to 90% of the population in the average suburb the sounds these cars make is loud and annoying. Now if she doesn't even live on your street either she's just really sensitive or your car is really that loud but the closer neighbors just don't mind enough to say anything to you. At the end of the day you will be having an encounter with a leo officer since she keeps complaining and you will have to get your sound checked and deal w/ it accordingly if it is outside acceptable limits. Honestly with all the complaining/informing she keeps doing regarding your car I'm surprised the cops haven't already showed up, in my area they most likely would have checked on you after the first complaint, although I live in a quiet suburb where the leo really don't have anything better to do.

Sorry, I read that but my comprehension skills were a bit lacking.

However even a few minutes is pretty annoying. 2 minutes in the morning is still too long. Especially if it sounds like any of the Corksport single exhausts I've heard. Those things are raspy, ridiculously loud and the sound is very penetrating. Personally I think it's a terrible exhaust. Are there a lot of diesel trucks hanging around your neighborhood in the morning?

There's an old phrase "don't **** in you own nest". Dealing with neighbors is a skill. Even if she's the only one bothered, put yourself in her place. Maybe she's a late and light sleeper? Maybe she's up until 1AM every night for some reason?

There really isn't a reason for any cars that are called "street" cars to be excessively loud. Single exhausts make it worse.

One of my neighbors has a boyfriend that has a 350Z. A few months ago he put a single fart cannon on it, and it's a real piece of work. Some cheap eBay special with fake heat bluing around the massive (at least 5") tip. The car is excessively loud for the power level, which as far as I know is stock. The real annoying part is that he insists on "warming up" or "cooling down" his stock NA car by running it at the curb for several minutes at the time. The exhaust tone penetrates everything. I've always been occupied with other stuff while this is happening but I do intend to have a friendly chat with him about the noise. So it's not just old ladies that are bothered by excessive vehicle noise.

I agree with you 100% on the corksport exhaust! It was too much. That's why I swapped for duals after the woman's 1st complaint.

Can you give me some info on what tuning needs to be done so I don't have to warm up the car? I would love that. Anytime she's cold she dies so easily...

especially it being a turbo, you have a 2 up in keeping it quiet yet still performing well. n/a rotaries need the free flowing exhaust to perform better, making it more difficult to keep the car quiet yet better than stock.

pretty sure i mentioned, richen up your coolant correction maps in the temp ranges that it is bogging out. bridges need a lot of fuel, especially when cold.

tuscanidream, no stamp or anything like that. Maybe if i let her drive the car she'll change her mind?

I'll definitely look into it. I'm really a noob when it comes to tuning so I guess it's time to learn. Thank you sir.
