Rx-7 in a commercial last night?
Did anybody see the newest socalled version of the Rx-7 in a Mazda commercial last night? I would buy that car. Most of the new cars in the $40K and down range do nothing for me.
The commercial was not for any specific model and they didn't say the words rotary or rx7. But they had this car on for a frame or two.
Maybe this is old but it's the first time I saw it.

I seen it tonight, ill link it tomorrow.
Think the car was only in the beginning, but the other commercial has it also drifting into a tunnel and has more rotary coolness in it as well

if your talking about the blue car in the video, thats the Takari/mazda 6. Its gonna be 2 cars with the same chassis i believe, the mazda 6 as your everyday car and the more aggressive/sporty Takari. Saw the Takari at the NYC auto show where the spokesperson said this. Of course i asked them if they had any plans of a rotary engine in the future but they didnt know. only rumor has it that mazda developed/patented a new rotary engine the 16x to be unveiled in 2017 but who knows

Some talk about a hydrogen / gas powered rotary? Mazda Rotary-Powered Plug-in Hybrid to Launch in 2013 | AutoGuide.com News

priced around a 370z range but sounds like it would be lucky to go head to head with a BRZ, which is less money
sounds like a failure from the start no one wants 225hp $45000 sports cars

the Lotus is in a bit different category, as it's a go-kart under a fiberglass body. weighing in at a mere 1600-2000lbs. even a miata can't compete.
i still think mazda should actually build a real sports car instead of just teasing everyone with the unveiling of the Furai. they have never made a supercar, from one of the most performance oriented car companies to date. i would bet it is Ford's controlling interest in the company and their lack of enthusiasm for this line of cars, being mainly how Ford actually came into control in the first place.

probably not, the renesis put the last stake in the coffin with the gross amount of warranty claims after the 8yr/100k extension.
but to me a supercar would be a PP 3 or 4 rotor engine. someone who can afford a $100k car isn't going to give a rat's *** about the 10mpg it got.

The issue is basic sedans handle great, you cant just have a car that handles well and expect that to sell cars. After such a long hiatus would rotary fans flock to the showrooms? I dont think they will, they have moved on and expect more from their cars
He's talking about this commercial:
Pause it at 3 seconds, it's computer generated, but it doesn't like the 6 to me, looks like a potential 4th gen. (actually on closer inspection it does look like the six, oh well)
I've been wondering the same thing about that commercial.
