ok, well, looking at the way you installed it, you did it wrong.
freakin rotary-works need to repost the pictures of the fc with the kit and it will show the right way to install it. 1) you dont use the stock elbow, you use the ast 2) you have to cut off the stock pipe in the air dam, thats what the reinforcement bar is for 3) the intercooler has to sit parallel to the ground, not downwards the way you have it 4) because the intercooler is parallel, the radiator will pivot further up, clearing the lower radiator connection at the bottom of the radiator. thats all i can see with your pictures. please, dont use a fish eye lense, it makes it soooo hard to see details. haha well with the ast...i am not done yet. I really wish rotary works would do something! How can they think I am gona get this in the right way with NO customer support at all. I think i get what you are saying though. was the in/out for the intercooler towards the front or rear of the car?

the inlet/outlet sits toward the back of the car. 90 degree elbow, pipe, 90 degree elbow, turbo. the other side is a 90 degree, pipe with the bov, connector, tb. you shuold be using the greddy tb adapter.

The bar that the oil cooler sits on is the LEAST of your worries. This kit requires the removal of the front crash bar. THAT is way more crucial, and that bar they give you as a replacement is a joke. Also, why is your fan ON TOP of your rad?? It goes underneath.

well this is where the car sits as of today. This has turned more in to my vmount then how rotary works built it to be. I could have saved alot of money if I had just bought their bracket kit haha

^ pretty much what I did haha. I think the radiator mounts, the intercooler and the drivers side intercooler pipeing are the only thing i havent had to cut/modify.

Hmmm... Is it installed right? That does look scary low, especially with the neck like that... couldn't it have been on the side of the rad?

how high should the bottom of the rad be from the ground? i need to compare mine to this kit.
oh and to user Twins, they dont include instructions because professional installation is recommended. The reason they include that long skinny bar is to replace the chunky one the stock oil cooler sits on. You should have just left everything alone until you got help. You would have had a MUCH nicer result that Rotary Works intended you to have. |

hit me on msn somtime! I got updated pics for yah. my car's done! that is a terrible vmount outcome BTW. but trust me, still a lot of work to do from here. Make sure to install a cooling panel over the front there. Also, did you move your fan back underneath ur rad, or just remove it all together? Seeing as you still have the stock AFM, the car won't be making over 300hp anyways, I don't this the money you spent on this kit was worth it. IMO you should have bought a good fmic and a good aftermarket rad, and just gone water injection if you were really that paranoid about your engine. the neukin kit and a lot of ppl's "vmounts" are not vmounts, they have HMIC. Titanium TT's is the nicest one I've seen for the fc. But basically, the intercooler sits parallel to the ground, and to the flow of air (which is not good, you want it perpendicular for obvious reasons). It still works, and has its own benefits - mainly concerning the rad placement and chassis support. Vmounts should be done right, or not done at all. The idea of doing it otherwise completely defeats the purpose. I'll post pics of my setup in the next week okay. |
I hope you guys know I am far from done working on this. I still have to do all of the ducting and coolant lines. I am pulling the radiator tomorrow and having the lower neck cut off and welded on to the side. the fan will be put on the bottom so it doesnt block the air flow.
As far as the radiator goes. If you look from rotary works pic you can still see the lower neck. Mind you there pic you are actually looking down on the kit. Yes my car wont make over 300hp. However I will have shorter pipeing then a fmic. Also having a smaller intercooler is more practical for the fact that I....yes still run a stock turbo. I had a greddy knock off fmic and a corksport radiator. Yes they were both good parts for the price. However now not having warmer air come off the intercooler. This should increase the cooling ablities once everything is finished. |
If you wanted response and short piping, you should have kept the stock tmic, or bought the arc replacement ic. Would've saved you a lot of hassle, but on the bright side with this setup, if you do want more power, one part of the car is already ready.
I'm not trying to come off as a dick or anything, but take my criticism for what it is. I'm speaking b/c I've done this, it's not easy, or simple, and there are a ton of little things that IMO, make it NOT worth it. Keep us updated with your progress, you are doing the community a great favour by researching and evaluating this kit. Ppl can them come here, see what you had to go through, and decide for themselves if this kit is worth the price/hassle/labour invovled. I still don't like the idea of that front crash bar being removed. |
Ya I am with you on the crash bar! I actually had one in the back yard i was gona try and make fit. Turns out someone threw it away. once I get everything sorted out with the vmount my next plan is to make a bar kinda like this.

Thats funny, the first one from the batch we test fitted slapped right on without a single mod besides the crash bar, obviously, and fit perfectly...
The car also does have the factory front support while yours looks custom... I'll have to find pics and see if I can post for you guys. I'll be putting mine in soon so maybe I'll do a thread on install or mods needed if any. |
as much as I would hate to shell out $2k + for a IC its seems like the rotary extreme is looking better and better as far as being a true kit and being able to keep ac and PS, and it will include duct work

The Rotary Works VMIC kit also is designed to keep PS and AC... but I agree that Rotary Extreme is making quite a kit themselves :icon_tup:

hmm, i was thinking about getting this kit, but seems to have lots of problems??
do u know if rotary-works are aware of such issues? edit: if the outlet was welded onto the side, would this be the "biggest" issue solved? |

heres some "instructions" aka pics form the rotary-works thread that seems to have gone
u can see the radiator outlet at the bottom, but doesnt look as low as yours plus in a few pics, the intercooler looks almost flat, and in some others looks as though it ends up on more of a slant? to me, looks like the only "custom" bracket needed is the one that bolts the intercooler nearer to the bonnet latch |
