rice or not-modded cigarette lighter push button start

just modified the standard cigarette lighter to act like a momentary switch. my ignition switch doesn't work at start so I hooked up a switch going from ign1 to start. turn key to on and push button. was looking at my cigarette lighter and thought other than the element being a big resistor it's basically a switch so I remove the element, added a washer some wire going from one side to the centre to the other side and another washer to hold in the wire, bent out the tabs that hold the lighter when pressed in and hooked up my starter and ign1 wires and boom works. now I know it works I'm going to wire in a relay and then I've got a push button start that no one will know it is what it is and you can take it with you when you park up. I'm sure I'll get flamed for it being ricey, what you think and is there anything wrong with what I've done?

I think it's ingenious. I have seen people put the s2000 push button start there before though, so you're not the first.

Ben,

I think it's an awesome idea! The good: It's stealth. If you pull the lighter out, no one can start the car. The bad: If anyone knows about it, they can buy a "key" to your car at any auto parts store.

I'd be worried about shocking the crap out of myself pushing in that thing and 25 year old plastic being the only thing between you and your battery. But I worry a lot. Gotta go make sure my car is still in the parking lot real quick...

you still need the normal key to be in and set to on but the key can't start it so a ripped out ignition barrel won't work either.

yeah getting shocked, same could happen with a normal push button

s2000 button don't look like just a lighter yo. lol

and thanks for the genius remarks

guess you don't need to charge a cell phone or ever use gps or anything that needs to plug into the lighter.

nah I like map books, if you go the wrong way it's your fault so I don't feel the need to place a gps under my back wheel when frustrated with the stupid australian lady taking me the wrong way. don't have a car charger anyway.

Definitely not rice. Any cheap lowtech mod that makes it harder to steal your car, and prevents your significant other or teenager from joyriding while you're at work is a great idea to me.

Not ricey at all sounds like a great way to hide a starter button in plain sight.

Sounds like an awesome idea, and if you really wanted a 12v outlet again just go to Walmart and grab one and wire it in... you could even mount it in your glove box for an equally stealthy 12v outlet.

for push to start, not ricey imo. Maybe add a kill switch that makes you enter a code, like in transporter. They're not hard to make
