rev limiting fun.. kinda?
what is your guy's take on the high RPM carbon burn off ****? does that **** really make a difference? I'd hit the redline on my car whether it was good for the car or not.. just wondering if it actually has any benefits?
i just hit the rev-limiter in first gear today and it started popping, crackling, and making fireworks. and i kinda started wondering whether it was fuel cut or ignition cut??? i'm pretty sure it is fuel cut, and was wondering if maybe that can be dangerous?
and if so, then where would the "redline it to keep it healthy" **** help, after detonating my motor?

if your car is crackling and popping at redline with the stock ECU then your car is having issues.
stock the car has a soft limiter.
and yes, IMO redlining these engines does dislodge larger chunks of carbon and even some of the smaller stuff. but this is nowhere near as healthy as premixing, auxiliary injection or decarbonizing treatments is. premix usually keeps at least 50% of the carbon off the rotors, AI will keep the internals spotless and decarb treatments trump redlining to dislodge carbon because you do not have to test your motor to do it.

Fuel cut seems to be around 7700RPM on S4 NA.. Though that's from a dynosheet where the tech. hit it..
It does certainly dislodge carbon [I did a a bit of high RPM WOT pulls in 2nd gear a couple years ago which seemed to help the engine with something else... But I've forgotten exactly what ^_^"]
Doing the water decarbonizing is also fairly helpful for determining the condition of your engine [you'll have trouble keeping the RPMs steady if it's not doing well]
