Has anybody upgraded their S5 foglights with HIDs? what kind of bulb do you use? Do you need two extra ballast to power them or you can use the same ballasts from the headlights? I want to install HIDs on my foglights too but I´ve been too busy lately to check the foglights... does anybody knows?

E_Dub 01-15-09 06:40 PM

Why? So you can make even more glare? I hear there's a new trend, taking out your headlights and retrofitting in flood lamps like the ones they use in construction. You should try it out, same goes to everyone else in this thread putting HID's into fail H4 housings. I hear the results are great.

Zerkster 01-15-09 07:16 PM

Well someone has their panties in a bunch about these things. I dont understand why there is so much of a love/hate with these. I like them, alot of people in my town have them, and they never cause a glare when they are in oncomming traffic. TTT made some good arguments but E dub's only argument is glare, but seriously it isnt that bad. Ive had a harder time being blinded when a lifted truck with Sylvania bulbs pulls behind me.

Oh and E Dub, you cant retro fit flood lamps silly. It would draw too much amps. (joke)

Jeffc3s 01-15-09 08:59 PM

Well I want to upgrade my foglights with HID's because I want them to go with the headlights. My HIDs will be intense no doubt about that, but ill try to prevent the glare by lowering the aiming. I could care less if you dont agree with me, its something I want to do in my car. Shit, I dont agree with wide wheels-stretched tires and their 30mm to 50mm bitch fenders but hey people do it anyways... still, its not of my concern. So if yall gonna act all technical up in here, then go bitch at them Initial D fan boys and Drift punks, you could be VERY useful there and making us a HUGE favor.

LOL jk jk...

You ARE making good points though TitaniumTT... but come on, put some cream on that itch and let it go... people are not going to spend $1200 for Rally HID. They would spend that money WISELY, not on some lighting thingies. Plus most people do it MORE for the looks.

E_Dub 01-15-09 09:35 PM

The fogs hardly even have a reflector..all your going to do is have this mass amount of light emitting from the front of your car that doesn't shine down the road at all. Not to mention zero cutoff and no beam pattern.

Zerkster 01-15-09 09:48 PM

Well sorry we cant please you E Dub

E_Dub 01-15-09 10:43 PM

Well why bother paying for an upgrade if it's totally ineffective?

i have hid headlights and foglights.

how's the visibility at night with those w/o the fogs on? i wanted to do the same but it seems like most of the light wont be used to its full potential, looks good though!

blimp 01-15-09 11:59 PM

with the foglights off, its pretty tough to see since it just points forward. If i didn't have the foglights i wouldn't run them like that.

more recent pics of my car. pretty happy with these projectors. 1st pic = above cutoff (no glare, yey). 2nd pic taken below cutoff.

next headlight setup will be a tsx projector retrofit, because of the funky colored + super sharp cutoff they produce. example (not mine)

Chemical 01-16-09 01:46 AM

oh yeah they are 4300k for anyone wondering. there are no oem hid's over 4300k, that blue color that everyone wants is all in the optics, has nothing to do with bulb temp FYI

SouthSideSlider 01-16-09 03:56 AM

i actuslly realy like the look of that headlight assembly in there

This doesn't make any sense at all. Wide rims and stretched tires have a clear benefit to stability and handling, making the car safer and faster. Fenders are completely harmless.

Ebay HIDs stuffed into crappy H4 housings can blind oncoming traffic and result in loss of life.

Not very technical, shouldn't be that hard to understand the point of the posts in this thread. That said, there are always going to people who have the attitude that they will do whatever they want to their own car no matter the fact that it might be unsafe or even damaging to their cars.

SouthSideSlider 01-20-09 11:51 PM

these 2 last post seemed pretty good TTT what do you think of these 2 items. the 2nd one looks like its more promissing then the first. minus the fact even with these they are mostlikly illegal.

Hypertek 01-21-09 01:20 AM

some of you guys are gonna loose your high beams if you dont go with a high/low kit

h_block88 01-21-09 01:55 PM

i dont think it is illegal and it has a high and low its a bixenon lens that spouse to be for retro fit.
But it seems like they are no pictures or info online about it that i could thrust to buy. Its not cheap

sc0rp7 01-21-09 02:48 PM

bump... curious about last couple links posted also...

NJGreenBudd 01-22-09 01:38 AM

The more I think about this crap, the more I want to redo my setup with new projectors. Has anybody else been thinking about trying to install actual projectors and retain the stock pop up look?

This is kinda what I am thinking:

Check out this thread from a Nissan club:
TSX Projector retrofit and HID popups

EJayCe996 01-22-09 07:42 AM

The problem with TSX projectors is that they aren't bixenon, you'll lose your hi-beam which, around these parts at least, will fail you at inspection. Yes, my car passes legit inspection
