Post your Retro-fit HID setup
 

I recently bought a pair of DOT legal H4 headlights with 4300K bulbs on Ebay after checking Icemark's HID thread and Im excited for my package to get here. Now looking forward to upgrade my foglight's lighting perfomance with HIDs, how about if you post your Retro-fit HID setup and let us be the judge :)

i have a pair of raybrig clear h4 lenses with a 6k hid kit. I love it, i mostly keep them down so they come through the ftps. If anyone is interested in hid kits for cheap pm me.

i have a set of projector headlights with some shitty BMW hid kit wich i have to replace soon

Has anybody upgrade their foglights with HID bulbs? what kind of bulb do you need for the OEM foglight?

Are those JSPEC FTPs or the light from your headlights?

Btw what kelvin rating are your HID bulbs Blimp? it looks pretty sweet, I bet they are 6000k... post some more

stock ftps, just shooting the hids straight through them.

This are the DOT legal headlights that I bought on Ebay for $80, not them flashy projector headlights with those damn blue bulbs you usually see on Ebay... I hate that blue bulb, makes your headlight look cheap IMO... :icon_no2:

when i threw hid h4 in my old benz i bought a kit that had caps on em *tho i took the hat off since it was sitting behind fluttered lense

Blimp how do you like that setup? i had the raybrigs in my old s13 but with silverstar bulbs, but loved the crap out of em, the best dam h4 housings out there even if they where RHD designed.. Worth every penny i wish i pulled them when i sold the car.... =(

no caps, I was really surprised when I installed the HIDs in these housings, I had tried a few other housings and found that these actually provided the cleanest cut and littlest glare. They are bright as hell but I have em aimed down, I have passed my friends on the road and they say it's bright but not glaring in any way.

ya dude the raybrigs are the shitttt. Just replacing them from the original housings was night and day. The stockers suck soooo bad. Ya with the hids they are crazy bright i can see EVERYTHING. I mostly keep them down and have the hids fogs light up the road for me.

Are those "caps" needed? i see some h4 housing that have that cap where the bulbs sit in, then i see some that dont have it. i always read that using an HID bulb you shouldnt have that "cap" in the housing not meant for HID's.

So if you dont have that cap, should the HID bulb have a "cover"?? as hypertek posted.

Hope that makes sense. I'm asking b/c i got a set of H4 housing that dont have the cap. i didnt want to blind ppl , so i was just going to get silverstars, but if I can run HID's in them without glaring, im all for it.

Fuck the other people. Adjust your headlights so that it doesn't shine into people 's backglass and ride out. Be prepared for oncoming traffic to flash you constantly, but that just comes with HIDs, factory or aftermarket.

I think you need it, because the headlight cap's purpose is to reflect the light projection created by the HID bulbs to the wall reflector and that creates a light pattern which increase wider, further and better viewing at night. From what I read in many write-ups and articles, the headlight AND harness is as important as the HID you are upgrading. Its useless to buy a brand HID kit (or bulbs) to go with a cheap, poor light projecting, bad aiming headlight. Its also useless to buy a DOT legal crystal clear headlight with just ANY 6000K 8000K or 12000K HID kit. The higher the Kelvin rating (temperature) the less you are gonna be able to lighten the driving environment at night due to the amount of blue or purple color added to the light discharge. Its going to be difficult to drive at night with 12000K (Purple) compared to 4300K (White) or 6000K (Crystal White). Harness plays a big role here and this is what most of the people totally forget, you should also upgrade your 23 yrs old harness to a heavy duty harness that will take on the highly intense discharge produced by the bulbs. You see its all about Performance vs Looks, if you want performance Ill recommend you guys to go with 4300K (Pure White) you will have a the best viewing out of all bulbs. But if you want the looks and be the attention grabber, I would recommend you not to go past 6500K because its still white but with a little bit of blue added to it. There is a slight bit of difference between them two, due to the blue color added to the light discharge, you'll be seeing a bit less than the bulb projecting all white. I hope I made sense here.... lol

So far I have yet to see a "retrofit."
