It's like that around here.. I finally found an RX7 in a junkyard in my town, I wanted the hood (it was a turboII hood) and the tail lights... They pull it up, they wanted 500 for the hood, and 225 for the tail lights.... I told them to have fun selling that, you can get a carbon fiber hood for the same price. Their arguement was "Oh, but this is a rare aluminum hood, they sell for a lot, you're getting a good deal." Appearently nobody told them what carbon fiber was.

Thanks soulrider. It was alot of work, time and money, but it is worth it. It has so much more torque than the NA that was in it.

A few changes since last I pimped out my car...

Installed a Mazdatrix strut tower/firewall brace with engine torque arm and relocated the alternator.

Moving the alternator was kind of a whim but the brace really made quite a noticeable difference. It's hard to quantify- especially since I also changed wheels and tires at the same time- but the steering seems much crisper and many of my interior rattles/creaks went away.

How hard was it to mount the Mazdatrix brace to the firewall does the dash have to come out. And have you got a manual rack or depowered rack? whats it like to drive.
Best Looking NA engine bay ive seen too

Mounting the brace is all done from within the bay...nothing inside gets touched.
The firewall braces are bolted to the lip that runs across the firewall and it's relatively simple to drill the needed four holes after moving some of the hardtubing that's there.

Yes, manual steering.
Even with big(ger) tires- 235/45/17- and a smaller than stock steering wheel (350mm Momo), I find the steering to be perfectly OK.
Mine is a true manual rack so it's the slower ratio (20:1).
I bought a fast ratio power rack to convert but never felt the need to do it, 20:1 is fine for the street.

Thanks for the compliment.
I kept the bay stock for the first year I owned the car then started going nuts.
The way she sits now is the end result of several discrete "upgrade" projects that took place over two years.
The idea was to tidy things up while keeping it easily maintainable and smog legal...she's my only car/daily driver and has to be reliable.

I've learned a lot from this thread. Some things I may try to do if I can as a weekend project. I know that weekend projects usually turn into a long ordeal, but we'll see how far I get. Plus I'll post a pic soon of mine.

not having a garage or another dd may prevent someone from doing something like this, but I think its not impossible. i took my time and sanded my finer tips away cleaning every little piece to make sure it came out smooth and the paint would stick pretty good (I didnt do the painting tho). Major props to body guys out there who sand for hours everyday. The fact that I was on crutches at the time helped since I couldn't do much more. you cant really tell from the pics but I also took most of the body harness apart, cleaned it and rewrapped it since a lot of it was falling apart and full of grime and oil, plus i wanted to run a few wires differently.
