polishing parts

ok, so while my car is down, i figured i would do some powder coating and polishing. im also doing this on my bug engine, and right now im doing the alternator on my bug. yes, i converted to an alternator and serpentine belt.
but, i have sanded it using 80 grit to get rid of the casting inperfections, 120 flap wheel, 500 grit, 800 grit, 1500, then 2000 grit flap wheel. i use my buffer wheels and cutting compounds, it all looks great, but still looks a bit milky. anyone have any recommendations or tips to make it look mirror clear? its aluminum, but is there no way to get it to look like polished chrome?

rub it by hand, with some buffing compound, and then a glaze, or metal polish.

i'd use emery stick, with a buffer on a bench grinder. Afterwards, if it still needs a finish, I'd hit it with the mother's polish.
